Thanks, your content has added a lot to my life enjoyment as a new arrival in Hanoi. I just got back from a couple of days on bike to Ninh Binh, and am relieved to hear that route is as bad as it gets.

Dude Great content brother I was hoping to make a trip to Vietnam & Thailand Curious if you sell bikes? Your opinion on the Honda 125 ct/trail for the Vietnam bike tour Thanks for your intelligent experience & information Stay safe Craig

We sell the Honda XR 150. Basically we only sell off our rental models. We are not a buy / sell shop.

CT trail or Yamaha PG1 is an ideal bike for VN. Does well on bad roads, light enough to be pushed, dragged or whatever for when you get stuck or have to turn around in zero space. Stick some mild 80:20 tyres on it and your literally perfect for most things. Locals get by on anything that works, they will be better riders than you, try to hold their wheel on the rough stuff and you'll be quickly humbled. In a Vietnam you only need about 80kmh of speed tbh, big bikes only needed if your an expert VN rider already, bikes no matter the engine size are allowed on highways, so you are always gonna be on a mixed use road with folk just doing whatever, hence 80kmh is fastest you'll ever feel comfortable doing. In the north it's now the fashion to take a Honda winner or winner X and put some mud tyres, decent rear shock, modify the fork, strip the bodywork and turn it into a perfect cheap trail bike.

The article is missing the link although I found it on the website. The more I watch your videos the more I'm convinced to get a blade. I ride a CB500X at home in the USA and while I love the bike doesnt seem appealing for the kind of pace I'd want to travel Vietnam at.

I think for HCM to Hanoi trip the CB 500x is good. But for all the stuff around or above Hanoi, then XR or Blade is a better choice.

I rode solo there these areas in February and I agree that it is some of the most beautiful countryside in all of Vietnam.

Hey mate been watching your videos and looking at your website. Looking at doing a hcm to Hanoi trip around August this year. Just wondering if it’s a stupid idea to go solo or if there’s groups I can message to get a crew together? I’ve got about 5 years dirt bike/ road experience and would bring a safety beacon with me. Just looking for options at the moment. Thanks

Alot of people do it solo and if you want to meet people then you will. It is a very popular thing to do. We have a discord channel for meetup that a few people use. But overall I would just show up and meet people if you want to. I wouldn't worry about doing it in advance.

I thing the locals carry a lot off stuff on scooters on that road with good tires

Do motorcycle sat navs perform well in Vietnam? e.g. would a TomTom Rider or a Garmin be a good alternative for using your phone as navigation? When I look on my TomTom planner, it does seem to suffer from the same optimism regarding travel times as Google Maps.

Garmin maps are very difficult to find for Vietnam. I bought a Garmin Zumo xt and instantly sold it because it was such trash. I won't buy a Garmin product again and I am amazed people actually like these things. Tomtom, no idea. In the end, phones are just too good now. I don't think there is any GPS device that can compete with a phone, providing you know how to use the phone. I have a few mapping based tutorials and videos on this channel related to phones. Not many people know how to use the phone properly for mapping, but it is well worth figuring out.

Waze workers better than G maps. However in the past 2 years g maps has massively improved in terms of selecting rideable roads and giving highly accurate travel times (you must have done a few thousand km already for it to understand your personal pace. Waze or g maps mounted on something decent and with a controller as it rains a lot so you need to lock your screen and use a Bluetooth controller such as Carpe Iter. That setup has worked for me very well. There will be a daily issue with a road that exists in real but not on the map and vice versa, such is the pace of development in Vietnam this is always to happen. An Ordnance survey type real topographic map would be amazing but have not found a digital version yet, only paper and pdf type which isn't much use for daily usage, only planning.

Hey, is it true that it’s illegal for foreigners to ride motorcycles with their own country drivers license even if they have the international drivers permit???…

No, it is not true. Read this page www.tigitmotorbikes.com/international-drivers-license/

Only for countries that aren't signatories to the convention that Vietnam abides by. Unfortunately US and Australia are not signatories and there is basically no legal way to drive here if you are on a tourist visa. I'm happy to be credibly informed otherwise, but this is what I got from rather determined research on the topic. Doesn't mean you can't ride here, though.
