Arthur lays down a steady 4/4 while Tigran play the 35 16th note long riff with Sam following along. However, that's 3 extra 16th notes longer than a bar of 4/4 so in order to resolve it Tigran and Sam play through that riff seven times (7x35=245) then add a truncated eighth repetition of 11/16ths to bring it to a total of 256 16th notes. Divide by 256 by 16 and you get 16 bars of 4/4.

Progressive Metal is a genre influenced by jazz. Not the other way around. It's a violent genre of music. That's what separates it from other genres. That's whats so great about progressive metal, its openness to other genre influence. To me, I see Tigran as a phenomenal Jazz Artist with Armenian folk influence in his music. Who makes use of complex rhythms and melodies, which just so happens to appeal to folks of this heavy metal 'Djent' subgenre. It's not just about metal, it's about what you can do with music.
@Dadude1234110 жыл бұрын
Not to imply that Jazz isn't influenced by other genres. It definitely is, as heard from this video.

I'm so sad it's taken me this long to find this, as a musician who grew up listening to mostly thrash metal like my padre did but wnded up becoming heavily invested in classical and jazz once I picked up clarinet and saxophone in school, I've been striving to develop a good sense of fusion between the various types of music I love. This is hauntingly good, I've found a great new inspiration for my compositions!

That drummer is playing 2 separate time signatures at the same time. The top half of his body is playing in a straight 4/4. He is switching between 5/16 and 3/16 and a few bars that are 9/16 or 11/16 (I am a bit unsure). Not only does he play in two time signatures at the same time; he does it at a real breakneck tempo. (I had to slow the song way down to get the meters). HOLY COW!! My mind is blown!
@miserirken2 ай бұрын

The Belgians welcomed Tigran Hamasyan last night, in Flagey (Brussels) in concert, sorry, not in concert, some speak rather of "performance"... Obviously the room was seduced, despite the sound being a little loud for some. Two standing ovations (thanks for the encores!). Tigran's dexterity surprised more than one. The coordination with the drummer and bassist was exceptional. A new dynamic in music; a new way of approaching a musical tune; sometimes trance, always rhythm with chords that are its trademark. Tigran fans would also have liked to hear a little more sensitivity (calmer in solo) as he developed in the first and last track, where he brings new sounds (from his Armenia?). We can also highlight the performance of the drummer, particularly in good shape; the bass player was not left out, either. This concert should not stop, but it is so. Come back to us quickly and thank you very much for this exceptional evening.

I don't know how to read sheet music or to read measures, I just feel the tempo! That little part seems that slighrly slows the tempo, because we re used to listen the tempo before that changing. why we try always to put music in a frame work instead of enjoying it , nowadays it's rare when we find something musical , a lot of good composers out there but no body knows bout them versus "fast food" I was fortunate to listen for ex to chick corea , keith jarrett, rick wakeman... it took me years and years just to see the whole picture and still ... I think konnakol has opened a huge field for musician to explore different realms , john mclaughlin was used it to shift completely from so called jazz fusion to indian music .... I deeply thank you for sharing this beautiful music
