Thanks Dan - facing this on my daughter's Tiguan shortly, so all the details were great and clear.

I serviced my Tiguan yesterday (same age as yours & 118,000 miles), I did the front lower ball joints (got lucky and didn't need to remove the CV joint). I found my N/S/R shock is leaking as well, the boot and bump stop has been shot for years. Not being able to see the top of the shock I thought it may be internal and I'd have to strip the boot side panels out which are a pain. But having watched you're video I can see it's actually a really simple job, thanks for posting the video. PS. The air con clutch you refer to is on the compressor, the condenser is mounted with the engine radiator, the evaporator is in the heater box.

Brilliant. Exactly what's wrong with my Mk1 Tiguan (including Think Bike sticker). Thought it'd be a typical £4,000,000 garage job, but I'll get the bits ordered and crack on now. Cheers 👍

Sorted. No more rattling or skipping. You were right about them bottom bolts. Were an absolute cow’s arse to get out and back in. 🤯 As a note, you need a 16mm socket and 21mm combi spanner for the bolts. 👍

This is good. My two fronts have just gone, and one of my rears is leaking too. Getting the fronts done soon, and will do both rears later on. I've got 200,00km/124000miles on originals, not bad I guess!

Thanks. Is it necessary to change both of them?
@danlewry2887 Жыл бұрын
Not necessary but if one failed at that age then won’t be long for the other side to go. I’d say it’s best to do both

What is the size on the top bolt in the middle?
@uncleknik63584 жыл бұрын
How many Jack's did you use during the replacement? I see the stock on the right side, and you used a different one on the left?
@danlewry28874 жыл бұрын
Just the 2 jacks one to lift car and one to lift and compress the spring to get the shock out👍

impact tool on the shock rod nut is a 100% way to kill this shock.

PLEASE.. No one ever do this kind of work or any work under a vehicle with the kind of jack that is supporting it in this video......

Or wind the nuts in with a torque gun until it will not go any further, just asking for thread striping or snapped bolts.
