Love his phrasing and two-line-contrary-motion ideas. Less is better when each melodic idea is a gem. In other words, I don't listen to Peter thinking, "Yeah, he's good, but I wish he played faster flurries of notes." It's interesting to me, as a guitar player, how he seems to adhere to a certain fingering pattern of his scales - his left hand moves a lot up and down across the frets instead of staying in one position and he uses a lot of first and second finger. Apparently, he is quite judicious about what string he uses to play a given note. Whatever his strategy is, it works. He sure puts a lot of thought into his arrangements - and heart.

+Bryan Alfonso I think he plays basically from old blusey approach in concern of fingering and freboard view... he plays lines mostly with three fingers and shifts a lot as did Montgomery, CC, as do to certain degree Benson and Metheny and many others... this technique effects phrasing, I noticed mostly three-fingers player have havier accents more rounded phrases... But I think he does not depend on pattern - at this level he just sees the fretboard thoroughly.. Also as far as I know he does not use scales as basic refrence and do not teach them..

+Yury Liman Good points Yury. I was taught by a player who emphasized position playing or economy of motion with my left hand. As you point out, moving horizontally seems to go hand-in-hand with a rounded, bop phrasing. In any case, it seems like the end justifies the means in music - however you get there, if you sound good, you're good.
