About the 'compliment and the next day pretty much bad luck'; In Philippines there is actually many incidents of these that whenever i.e someone compliments your appearance and the next few days you gradually notice you're kind of unattractive. It's actually because that person's compliment/s were ungenuine. When they say your teeth 'are so perfect', or they 'wish I had teeth as nice as yours', they, sadly, think otherwise. And how us, the people who are aware, tend to avoid the consequences is that we casually chant the word "Buyag" or "Purya Buyag". Now I'm not the best at explaining what it means, for I naively don't understand my own native language, but it's basically a saying to avoid the outcome of what might happen (Because unfortunately, the effects can also stay for the rest of your life (basically permanent), believe it or not) I've been informed about this when my friend told me about the time a stranger complimented her cousin's (less than 5 I think?) soft skin, and before long some dark spots started to show themselves around her body.
