Hydroponic Growing System from Greenjoy: Product Review

This is an hydroponic growing system manufactured by Greenjoy. The system is on the larger side when compared with Aerogarden. This unit holds 15 plants. It is not as deep as my Aerogarden Classic, so I wouldn't recommend it to grow tomatoes or the like, but for greens and herbs it was excellent. You can build your own hydroponic deep water culture system or one of the variations, for much less money. But if you don't build your own, or you are looking to give someone a gift, this item is worth checking out. The manufacturer gave me this unit for free to try out, and I got a beautiful crop of lettuces and herbs in 5 weeks, so it did not disappoint!

I really appreciate that you include any mistakes that were made. It's easier for me to learn what not to do as well as what to do. :) I started a small Ball jar hydroponic system in my basement about a month ago and wrapped the jars with aluminum foil to avoid algae growth. Everything is still at seedling stage and getting a little bigger every day. :)

Do you still have this unit? Do you like it? I'm watching this video 3 years after you posted it. This unit is not sold at Amazon anymore; but I have seem some units for sale at Ebay in New condition for under $30. So, is yours still working fine?

Good review. In my opinion the Aerogarden is way better it came put together and the light height is adjustable as the plants grow. Also no mixing of nutrients.

Thanks Angela, I also like the Aerogarden because of the adjustable light and the deeper reservoir especially for tomato plants, but for lettuce and herbs this worked very well.

How is the water cleanup? Can you do a video on that?

Messy. I let it stay for one harvest, then cleaned out and started fresh for the next one. If you have a better suggestion please let me know. Other than that, its growing the lettuce and some herbs very nicely, its similar to the aerogarden, except my aerogarden is smaller so its easier to do a water change, but then it grows less....tradeoff?

I only added water once, without nutrients. The lettuce grew very quickly, so it didn't need to be replenished. I didn't go for a second grow, I harvested all and started another crop. Thanks for your support!

Why not just two liters of water and then the two different nutrient solutions. ? Is there a reason to do it in two steps like that? Also why 2 different solutions. Can't they sell them pre mixed together? Or is it like epoxy and once they mix it becomes something else?

That would be easier, right? It says to follow the instructions to avoid possible "crystallization." So I followed the instructions. Now I'm on my second grow now and I went back to my old standby of Grow Big formula from Fox Farms. Just add two teaspoons per gallon of water, easy peasy. I like the unit itself, it contains the lettuce plants really neatly and gives them good light and air circulation, but I use my own rockwool and my own nutrient solution. Thanks for the comment!

Purchasing a system like this is so unnecessary. Just view MHP Gardener's videos and build one. Save your money and use it to buy great seeds.
