I have a story about this but roles reversed lol. My friend and I had gotten onto a train in France with a bunch of shopping bags and there weren’t any seats available so we just stood there and I said to my friend in Mandarin “my feet are killing me, it’d be really nice if someone got up so I could sit down”. There was a guy who stood up, offered me the seat and said in Mandarin he only has 2 more stops left. That was damn generous.

My experience kind of positive, I'm a Muslim wearing headscarf, one time in Japan while I was in the train I heard a Japanese kid voice asking "Why is she wearing that on her head?" I tried to look up not too obviously and saw the kid with his dad and then I heard his dad replied "Don't point, I'm not sure maybe she chose to and she looks beautiful don't you think? Let's respect them like you don't want people to ask you why you wear pants right? I looked up and make eye contact with the father nodded politely and said thank you in Japanese .needless to say the father nodded back slowly in shocked and his son hug his father shyly. The kid has great dad.

Wtf is wrong with the mothers who keep judging other girls probably their own daughters' age and speaking shit about them!
@HarveMoone
@HarveMoone 3 жыл бұрын
I commonly check my parent for doing this. She’ll say something snide and judgmental and I’ll constantly tell her there’s nothing wrong with the person she’s judging and she should really look inward as to why she feels the need to feel so negatively towards a random stranger who’s thriving in their body. The short answer is self esteem issues, but I refuse to let her spread them when I can help it.
@sabaaras
@sabaaras 3 жыл бұрын
My mom does the same thing and it’s incredibly irritating. Although she never goes as far as to say curse words or something of the sort, she has this habit of commenting on classmates or friends usually along the lines of “Oh have they gained weight?” or “Look how thick their legs have gotten...”. At this point it’s no use arguing with her about it but I still do it because why not, and she _never_ gives me a proper response or apologises. It’s always “When did you learn to talk back? Did you learn it from [insert talkative friend]?” or “oh you know me I didn’t say it in a bad way” yeah I’m sure you didn’t.
@HarveMoone
@HarveMoone 3 жыл бұрын
@@sabaaras God it’s really bewildering. Some random girl passes me by wearing a crop top and booty shorts and I’d hear my parent say something along the lines of “How can girls be comfortable in public looking like a wh*re?” And I’d immediately stop and swivel and go ham town. I’d tell her the bigger question is how can she see a perfectly innocent girl minding her own business and thriving in her body and become so fucking nasty for no reason. She’s allowed to dress how she wants, and I make sure to emphasize she’s very good looking while doing so. My parent tries to act like I’m being all dramatic and turning it into something it’s not and saying she just thinks her outfit is trashy and it’s “her opinion” and I just get so pissed. You never win with Karen’s. Even when raised by them. They’re a sort of self-procreating dominance. Can rarely ever be truly defeated, only removed from the situation and temporarily unraveled. They always coil back up waiting to strike again when opportunity presents itself, feeling both superior and indignant over everybody and everything at the same time as fucking always.

I think maybe "some" parents or people is insurcure of themselves , regretting they become a parents and took out their anger out and grunge just to shit talk other people in front of their child. Or shit talk their own child infront of their friends. More less , some of parents complain the miserably life that they've chose for themselves and does not accept the consequences. So they put all their anger , sadness and emotion toward other people or their own family. They have the attitude of "if i'm miserable , you're gonna be miserable too"

I think some moms are just insecure themselves and others are pointing out things they don't like in other people so that their daughter doesn't do the same. My mom makes a lot of these comments and I'm pretty sure it's half she's just as insecure as most middle schoolers and half she wants me to know what she does and doesn't think is appropriate. She did it a lot more when I was younger. She's tapered off as I've gotten older, probably because she knows I'd argue.

I understand German and can speak a small amount. I was in Germany one time and sitting in a restaurant with my new friends, who were speaking German among themselves. They were talking about me; saying different assumptions about me and so forth. I just sat and listened. At one point, one of the guys turns to me and says, "Wait, do you speak German?" In perfect German I replied, "No, I don't." He nodded and said, "Oh." and turned away. A moment later it sinks in and his head whips back to me and he says, "Wait, what?" Priceless.

Hubby said that he was in Munich during college and some of the people there were quite rude about him not being from there (Munich specifically) and calling him basically something akin to "outsider". Now my husband was born in Germany and immigrated to the US as a kid. So it's not like he isn't really German. He's just not from Munich.

@@thegracklepeck but that might also have something to due with Munich/Bavaria. It's often a joke or maybe half serious when we in northern Germany make fun of Bavaria and vice versa. They would call us Preußen and foreigners in Bavaria, we would say they are free to leave Germany if they want to. But we are not actually serious and don't generally hate each other. Also politically there are big differences and a lot of people outside Bavaria don't like the CSU which only exists in Bavaria. Bavarians are often really proud of their region and strongly identify themselves with it which is less common in the rest of Germany. It kinda fuels the feeling of "they are built different down there" but in the end we can... coexist 😅 also German humour is difficult sometimes. Very dry and satirical often, sometimes rather dark.

THe things is that slavic language are a little similar, so I understand 50to75% of the things she told to her friend. One month later I was alone with her and I look at her and told her: Do you know that I can understand what your talking with your friend in Russian ? She looked at me with a surprised face, then she says no way you're not Russian. I told her no I'm not Russian, but my mother tongue is a little similar to Russian so I understand it. She replied I can't believe it... , Then I said ok then talk 2-3 sentences in Russian I'll tranlsate it. So she started talking in Russian, very fast, about her what her mum and dad do, where she was from in Russian, and that she has 2 sisters. I translate it without mistake and then she was so confused, like her soul disappeared of her body xDDD I was laughing hard, and then told her be careful of what you talk about people. But, one day I pick up my cousin from school because I was there on spring break and spring break in Italy starts a week later. Then, i hear these two high school girls behind me talking about how Americans are *words I would not like to repeat* and saying I’m ugly. My cousin just starts cracking up, though because he knows I speak Italian, and I turned around and just said “Why would you say that, though?”, in Italian. They both just turn red and like mumble “How dare a middle schooler talk to us like that.” And then, my cousin laughed at them and we walked away. Why would someone in the USA talk bad about someone in spanish? There is a chance that the other person would understand it since americans learn spanish in school. There’s so many Hispanic Americans man, and they can be pretty ethnically ambiguous (speaking as a half Mexican who has been asked “Where you from?” by a customer at a job who thought I might be Asian). Not every Hispanic speaks Spanish, but literally Latin America is just south of us and lots of Latin immigrants live and work in the US (one of my jobs was primary Hispanic people with just a few black and white people, counting myself more towards the white side since I can’t speak Spanish)

Some Iranian girls talk MAD SHIT about people. When I first moved to Iran I took it so personal. It was so shocking to me how a group of palangs would stare while being right in front of my face and then whisper something to each other in 0.2 seconds and then erupt in laughter. That happened soo frequently and even store employees which made shopping so uncomfortable for me way too many times. I rlyyyy wish I could hear what they would whisper cause idk what insult can be so savage! 😅 And ppl are always shook when I say I’m not Iranian so it’s not like they’re making fun of me for being European lmao. The only time I’ve actually clearly over heard someone talking about me was a chador mom and daughter, they looked me up and Down and I was thinking “please don’t say anything 🙄” then the daughter told the mother that my coat is so pretty and the mom responds I know i was looking at it too... when I say my heart melted .. MY HEART MELTED. It was one of those days where I needed some positive energy 🤣. (Bur side note, Iranians are so friendly and kind to tourists. It’s a really welcoming country).

I want to share this Story: I am fluent in Three languages, English, Hindi and Bengali. And recently I am learning Korean. Now this is when I was in my 9th Grade (Freshman year). I usually don't have any accent like others. I was in a shopping complex and was talking in English since it felt easy and comfy. There were two aunt's infront and they were noisy and irritating to be honest. I said "Excuse Me" since I forgot to take an item and had to split off from the line. The two aunt out of nowhere said "Aajkal er maiya gulor modhe beshi ohonkar aache. Chi! Jerokom jama kapor poreche." Which literally translates to: Girls now-a-days have too much attitude. Look at the clothes she have worn. The tone wasn't really good. I just turned around and said, "Oh tainaki??!!" Which means: Oh Really??!! I swear the look on their face said it all and the person who was taking care of the Receipt counter gave me an round of applause and asked the two lady to apologise to me.

I always love something if ir's related to languages. So here's my story, I'm a Chinese-Indonesian (mostly Chinese tho) with a bit of Javanese and Dutch in me but I don't look like any normal Tiong Hoa (Chinese-Indonesian) people.. and people would always mistaken me as an American or Canadian. Same goes to my parents and siblings, my dad is fully Chinese (with an Indonesian passport) but people always think he's Japanese. My mom is Indonesian with a Chinese dad and an Indonesian-Chinese-Javanese-Dutch mother, she has a pink skin that's why people think she's American. My sister looks more Asian compare to me and my little brother, but people took her as a Singaporean or Korean (because of her style). My brother do not look Asian, because he's very different from us (but he is more similar to our mother compare to us), my brother has this French-Indonesia mix accent that's why people assumed he's French. Me and my family was at an airport one day in The US and there were this 3 Filipino girls that were talking about me BEHIND ME (we were in a line that's why they're behind me), they were talking in Filipino, they said "Akala ko ang mga Amerikano ay dapat na maganda, ang isang ito ay hindi man mukhang buhay, lmao". Honestly I thought I look pretty decent ;-; but I didn't reply to them because if I did my dad would ask why and I need to say this girls behind me were talking shit about me and he would stare at the three of them (my dad is very scary..) and because I don't want to waist any energy to some stupid humans. I was being nice that time. But then they proceed to keep talking, they said "Tingnan mo ang kanyang mga magulang, hindi kataka-taka siya'y pangit" means "Look at her parents, no wonder she's ugly". That pissed me off, so I replied "Pagkatapos gawin ito (Then do it). It's time for your mouth to stop doing your ass' job by letting out shits more". They went silent XD

The Korean customers would talk about her thinking she was Vietnamese and she would put them in their place in Korean. Loved her for being sassy in those situations.

I was buying 2 red bulls at the corner store and these Mexican guys started talking about me in Spanish saying I was hung over and that i was pretty but I looked like a "loca" so I didn't say anything at first but as I was leaving I told them, "No soy ninguna loca ni tampoco estoy cruda solo me gusta el RedBull." Which means I ain't no kind of crazy lady nor am I hungover, I just like RedBull. Their minds were blown. 🤯🤯🤯🤯 I have a lot of these though bc ppl never suspect that I am so fluent in Spanish.

My experience with this happened months ago So my parents are both Mexicans and my first language was Spanish, but I’m pretty different compared to them. For one I have a lighter skin tone and also don’t have as much of an accent. So when I’m in Atlanta with some friends We decide to go to downtown and they nominate me to decide where we would eat. So we went to a fairly popular Mexican family establishment. Everything was going smooth with order taking and all that, but after the cashier is done she says to her co worker who is the one that will take us to our seat “parece que tenemos algunos gringos para complacer” which translates to “it seems we have some whites to please” I was shocked and then decided to say “en verdad miró como un gringo?” and ended that. Moral of the lesson don’t talk bad about people, especially with one of the most common languages in the world.

This compilation just makes me want to cry and learn a new language but it's so hard. I have multiple learning disabilities like dyslexia, and adhd being the main ones and it makes it so hard to learn English and it took me way too long and I still get a lot grammatically incorrect but to learn another language would kill my soul. I learned some Italian in middle school, but it was still hard especially with the order of the words and I'm in highschool now not taking a language because I know it would do more harm than good. I hope one day I can really take the time and learn another language, but I know it would only happen if I really got to experience the language I was learning from in a cultural setting and I hope one day I can. 😔

@@anti_acido Yeah I see what you mean. I mean like the most formal setting to learn a language is school and they spend way too much time teaching you the standard version which half the time no one even says so it would be difficult to learn a language properly in that setting and plus it's easy to forget a language if like you said you aren't using it with others and surrounding yourself with it. I defiently want to at least try and I plan on attempting over summer break.

There are these audio classes by this guy, Michel Thomas (I think) that teach you conversational French, German, Russian, etc. Whichever u want. You should try that out if you’re interested as it might be easier than learning it formally.

French immersion doesnt mean you're learning the french curriculum, you just learn most of the curriculum in the french language. I'm a dual citizen Canada-France (Yes, perfectly bilingual, actually have no accent in either language unless I start over thinking it), I went to school in french immersion and then went to school in France and when I got back to Canada, my credits did not transfer, I had to redo a year
