30,000 pts in under 950 games and we got dudes talking about MJ not using his left hand too often (he did fine with it). Here is the truth about today's era, the league made it easier for players to showcase their offensive abilities. The "skill" of today's players hasn't been challenged, so of course they gonna look better than the players back in the 80's-90's on some things. You can be great with your left hand with no hand check, but how good would you be if the defender could use it and be close up on your body? That left hand would get exposed more because it is a your weak hand and the defender can now steer you where they want you to go.

It's because those leagues are nowhere near as player defined as the NBA. They also have slower, less drastic rule changes, so the game is recognisable to modern viewers at a certain point. Those before that point are given credit for their work in bringing it to that point and everyone accepts that as time goes forward players of any given sport will be better than those who came before, unless they are truly exceptional talents. The NBA's drastic rule changes mean that the game isn't really able to settle and develop naturally so you get people attacking the era's that came before and after because that isn't what they grew up with.

I love how people are saying this is lowlight picking or saying that this era has stuff like this as well, and when you kinda think about it, this is exactly what old heads been doing for years by this point yet nobody called them out on it. Now that its the other way everyone is bringing it up. Hoepfully moving on this just means we'll have more meaningful conversations on basketball because if you try to lowlight pick someone will actually clap back with their own lowlight picks.
@goldenarmy38028 ай бұрын
To me it's not, picking out lowlights of Jordan saying he had no left hand is not a true statement but saying the modern era has guys who are allowed to carry,travel and have more rules catering to them on offense is an objective fact plus modern NBA is at its lowest viewership in a while barely anyone's interested compared to the 90's plus most of these guys play even less games cause of load management, so yeah it's annoying I get it old head critique modern day but if the clapback is using lowlights of all time greats then clearly it doesn't clean the conversation it just makes it even more muddy. That's kinda the difference although both are not good old heads are putting up lowlights they're showing us that the game has catered to softer players who cry about 65 games played yk? Although I respect ur opinion I think ultimately this is just the cope for why these guys use lowlights as some sort of fact because they think older fans and even today's fans calling out obvious problems with how the sport is now is somehow cherry picking.

The 2014 Spurs and 2015 Warriors exploded offense. They used a scheme that any team can use with any type of player. The Spurs perfected ball movement, cutting and taking analytically high percentage shots and the Warriors just riffed off that while shooting more threes. Offense too much before that doesn't even compare. People complain that the game is more iso heavy, its not, its just that more players are better at iso basketball. Jordan, Kobe, and all the dominant bigs went 1 on 1 with their primary defender regularly, but players now are better at cutting and moving off ball for shots so it makes it even easier to both score or assist in isos

As a somewhat more recent NBA fan of 2 years, that didnt start getting into it until I was an adult, I feel like I have a pretty unique perspective because I wasnt around for any of it and dont have nostalgia tying me down to anything. Ive learned that the definition of “real hoops” is constantly changing but is always super easy to measure based off who youre talking because without fail it pretty much always means “whatever type of basketball was being played when that person was a teenager/younger”. So for example I have a friend born in 2001 who is the biggest Lebron dickrider. He *revels* in these sorts of videos basically making MJ out to be overrated, making fun of him and the 90s as weak plumbers, that whole stupid ass argument. But at the same time todays game is also terrible basketball because they dont call carrying and the scoring is inflated and you cant play defense. Also the late 2010s is the superteam and KD Warriors era so that doesnt count. So according to him in the entire 75+ year span of the NBA the only part that counts as real basketball is a 10-15 year span that just so happens to be when he was growing up and when his favorite player was in his prime and winning running the league. Right… totally makes sense… The most ironic thing about all of this is that people like this and the guy who made those dumbass tik toks do it out of spite against old heads while also not realizing that they’re already the new oldheads ranting and raving about the good old days of the 2000s and 2010s era. 10 years from now we’re gonna have Wemby stans making videos making fun of Kobe for being a shot chucker, accusing Lebron of being a fraud for not having a crazy bag, saying Steph was a three point merchant that played no defense, posting and obnoxiously laughing at every video clip of Giannis taking too long at the ft line, etc
