alright. i live in utah and am surrounded by mormons. i’m also an ex mormon. while there are *some* liberal members, conservatism and mormonism go hand in hand. it’s tradwife central, and my heart breaks for all the women who are being oppressed and abused by the men in that church.
@mutantsupremacies13 күн бұрын
i remember in church as a preteen teenage girl being taught about how in order to honor god and reach the highest kingdom of heaven, a woman must be married to a man who served a mission for the church. it is presented as the only way. we were groomed to be submissive caretakers who have children, thus fulfilling god’s plan for a celestial family that will join god after we die. getting out was extremely difficult. i literally had to have a lawyer (free) work to get my name removed from church records.

Trump only got 45% of The Utah vote in 2016. There was a mormon independent who split the rest of the vote with Hilary. Mitt Romney voted to remove Trump after his impeachment in 2021. Romney retired from senate, but his replacement is a Republican "Trump Critic", he actually won the Utah senate primary over the hardcore MAGA guy. She’s never portrayed herself as a stay at home mom though. I always viewed her content as a hobby she does that became something bigger. She has shown her life working as a model and she’s shown that she has a team around her. I think she hopped on a trend that allowed her to showcase her hobby in a creative, lighthearted, and sometimes satirical way and she has a team helping her manage everything. I say all this as a stay at home mom and a former mildly successful content creator as well as a biracial black woman
@ChoclateGeek12 күн бұрын
key word: unattainable. she doesn’t have to explicitly say “I’m promoting the lifestyle to be a mormon.” it’s soft selling the lifestyle by sugar coating it with aspirational leisure content most woman will not experience. Being a stay at home mom is not the same as a trad wife. there is NO monetary safety net if you break up. I think the thing that really trapped a lot of people about Nara (myself included for a time) was that she seemed so human, even for a crazy rich celebrity. But she talked about how she started making food herself to deal with her eczema outbreaks, and she showed lazy days with her kids, and she did food reviews of places that she and Lucky went to when she didn’t want to cook, and like Kayla said, she played into the jokes a lot with her audience. This is just musings, but Tressie McMillan Cottom did a really interesting ig post about the culture over correction of “femininity” that’s been really on my mind. I think along with the rise of manosphere is this reactive assimilation from white women to these “trad life” personas to cultivate their main capital, basically if you can’t beat em join em. For woc it’s this co opting of radical language to promote aspirations to hypergamy (which is just statistically unlikely). Even girls in my life have been adopting “divine feminine” language and trying to paint gender essentialism like some radical reclamation. Has been making me feel insane for at least a year 😭 It’s another piece in the culture shift rightward that has been underestimated :/
@user-ny1wo1vp9r13 күн бұрын
Ok, I haven't seen that post, but this is something that's been on my mind constantly. I keep seeing the over correction of femininity all the time, it started with valid points like how traditionally feminine interests are wrongly considered lesser or frivolous, and how you can be feminine and still be a strong woman, but at some point that led to an over-idealization of traditional femininity for women, to an extent of glorifying traditional gender roles. I've noticed the hypergamy thing too, i keep seeing it on Insta reels, with women (many of who are POC) constantly talking about '50/50' relationships being a scam, and saying men should be masculine protectors, providers and leaders (with the unsaid corollary being that women should be feminine, attractive, passive and subservient). Then there's that divine feminine bullshit too, they use 'woke language' while prescribing traditional gender roles, it feels insane.

Huge reminder that Nara has stolen ALL OF HER CONTENT directly from a farmer creator in South Africa named Onezwa. She's an awesome blackwoman who worked her butt off, just to have Nara steal video after video of content. Nara is so damn lazy about it, that she doesn't even try to switch it up, just copy paste. I wish people would stop watching Nara, and check out Onezwa to see the originator; Naras numbers are going to dropii

Something that's important to keep in mind is while Nara never openly talked about being mormon, she still glamourised it and being a trad wife in a lot of her content. Because she's always seen wearing dresses, makeup, cooking and making homemade food and treats for her family and seems happy doing it, it could potentially cause some people especially young girls to think "Oh hey, being a trad wife actually seems nice" not really that not only is her content most likely faked or extracted for the video, but her and most trad wife influencers similar to her are usually incredibly rich (either for making their trad wife content a business or their family being rich) most girls wouldn't have the luxury and will most likely be stuck in a life that treats them poorly or worse could lead them into abusive relationships. It's an incredibly dangerous and irresponsible lifestyle to glamourise, especially during a time like this. I think FunkyFrogBait put it best in their video "How many Einstein's have spent their lives washing dishes? How many Mozart's bent over stoves instead of piano's because they had the misfortune of being born a woman?" I'll admit I was confused on why so many people were shocked that she potentially voted for Trump, especially knowing that her husband was a mormon. I'm at least glad people are FINALLY realising that she's just another Conservative influencer that glorifies a potentially harmful lifestyle

Tradwife content is inherently political, but it's been so satirized by liberals on social media that it's not seen as harmful anymore. The truth is that 99% of tradwife content creators are corny because they try to be a caricature of a 1950s housewife. However, Nara Smith has a very desirable aesthetic, and a lot of liberals who talk ad nauseam about pretty privilege gave her pass because of it. Like others said, nothing wrong with being a stay-at-home mom, but the conservative messaging in tradwife content cannot be separated.

When you were mentioning manifesting comments, I thought at first you just meant you were trying to manifest people engaging w/ the video by leaving comments, but finished the video and let me say I really hope those mean comments are few and far between. Also the Charlie Brown comparison is very accurate lol

I agreed with almost everything minus your point at around 8:35. Unless prenuptial are in the picture, a trade-wife is legally guaranteed the financial lifestyle she had while married.

As someone half southafrican and she is half southafrican we well most of us are progressive and also. Im guessing her mother knows of apartheid but raised her daughter having the soft life. Not knowing awareness. And she her mother married a white man with 2 grown kids already. For a live in a foreign country.You forget to teach your child about real life. And Nara married at 18. And she also took a man with a kid.
@jyx938911 күн бұрын
So what crime exactly did she or her husband commit? Isn't democracy the ability to vote for the candidate you want instead of the govt electing one for you? Should we all just share a hive mind? Let people live their lives and focus on your own.If you want to be a boss babe go for it, if you want to be a trad wife also do it.My point is people should stop wasting energy judging strangers and maybe start working on improving their own lives.

You're a Redditor, I was a Redditor. I think social media in general, all platforms attract more liberals. So it create a MASSIVE liberal echo chamber. I was fine on Reddit as long as I was posting on show subs, entertainment, etc. However nore serious stuff, I realized its HEAVY liberal, like 70%. I had to leave Reddit. So those that do a lot of social media, it makes you feel most people are liberal, outside of that ---- theyre really not, so it gives a skewed view.

girl i usually agree with your videos but you just pissed me off talking about a "fallacy". what fallacy? nara smith is not a tradwife influencer because she is "putting on an act"? she is selling an image of young, rich, mormon mother of three, homemaker happily married to the white blonde man of her dreams. it doesn't matter that she's "pretending" or exaggerating her shtick for views, the portrayal of a traditional wife is what she's selling. she is a tradwife influencer because that's exactly what she wants to appear.

I appreciate this take. Our content doesn’t exist in a vacuum. And you’re right, a lot of us feel out of control, and we want control. It’s the one bit of empathy I extend to the raw milk etc ppl. They feel out of control and this is how they want to get it back…I think that’s a real bad way to do it, and their behavior doesn’t exist in a vacuum either, but I do get it

A lot of full time content creators might have been doing it full time cause it's paying the same or more than their other job. Like, (im assuming) Drew Gooden and Micarah Tewers. If I recall correctly, he was working in a fast food chain and she was in a supermarket or something while doing makeup for parties. Heck even a lot of actors are doing other things. Only the people in stem seem to brag about it. Every irl creator ik is doing workshops/teaching (actually teaching, not selling some course about their success). Being servers and barrista is ideal for actors/writers cause they get to study humans. But most people in the creative industry aren't just sticking to that. Even the short haired barrista on tiktok who makes soothing content has a wfh marketing job. Real life "housewives" are selling handmade decor on the side. No one is free from capitalism..

,I find no issue with the tradwife lifestyle. Staying home, caring for my family and cooking/cleaning all day is my literal dream. But I also understand that's not something every woman wishes for. I think the only time it starts becoming a problem is when you're pushing that ideal onto other people, and expecting that to be the norm for everyone else.
@tiahnarodriguez380912 күн бұрын
It’s also a problem when people have unrealistic expectations about it like refusing to believe there are serious consequences to this lifestyle like power imbalance, depending on one person for income is financially unwise, if something happens to your husband or marriage you are in for a hard time, and it’s not all sunshine and rainbows. It’s a very thankless job that you never get a break from, so people need to plan accordingly. There’s a reason our grandmothers fought hard to get out of the house is all I’m saying, so have back up plans and make sure you aren’t just depending on a man’s good will which can change/disappear at any moment. Pre-nups and automatic deposite are your friends.

She's not pushing anything onto anybody 🙄 like if you don't like it don't watch the average woman is not able to live that lifestyle enjoy it for what it is a fantasy and leave it there I think Nara said herself she and Lucky order from doot dash all the time when she doesn't feel like cooking

Hannasaurr makes the most accurate short parodies, and unlike Nara she is not annoying. People are funding Nara and her white husband with their views. Stop watching and making them relevant, it will not change their political views but maybe a hit in their finances could ring some bells. 🤷♀️
@Model_Roe10 күн бұрын
Agree 💯 I mean I'm not surprised by Lucky's political affiliations nor do I care 😂 he's an upper middle class wealthy White morman man who's a millionaire I would expect him to be a MAGA supporter does Nara support trump by default? We'll never know but a lot of us enjoy Nara's content because of the aesthetic aspects of it the ASMR who she and her husband support is their business but you're correct if they don't like her they just need to not watch

Hot take; I dont appreciate celebrities, sports or influencers acting like political analysts . No matter what , or who's in power , its good to focus on how you can go out there and make the situation work out for you and your loved ones POCKETS , the whole focus on online activism seems performative ,exhibit the "celebrity guillotine trend".
