Thing with this right,is I think twofold. For one,sure,you can go to a certain size to fit your brand image,valid,but at the same time(if we`re talking about US),about 40% of people are obese. 38% in the UK. For business reasons it feels rather stupid to exclude almost half of the population of the country you cater to,but that just might be me. Second,I live in Eastern Europe and I used to be plus size. Think EU size 14. I STRUGGLED as all hell to find anything that fit me,forget about looking good. And about 30% of people in my country is overweight. It`s kind of easy to say `look for smaller brands` if you live in US,UK,Australia etc. cause there is still an ABUNDANCE of choice. That`s not the case for many countries. I do think this criticism is valid for big brands that are present in many countries especially. I`m not saying every store should carry like 6XL etc always,but up to size 18 absolutely.

As someone who worked in a clothing department store, I've seen mostly average sized women (not obese) take issue with a lot of the clothing sizes not fitting right. The model standard size 0 does not translate into the general market very well. I think people can complain about that. It also reminds me of make up brands and them not having broad shade ranges for those with deep complexations. I feel like that is a problem people can raise an issue or concern with. Companies can then decide what they want to do. At the end of the day though, even Amberlynn Ried can find clothing that fits her in a variety of sizes & styles. So if you are bigger than she is, I don't think clothing is your biggest problem. But women's clothing sizes are so nonsensical, that even average women can get frustrated sometimes.

They are basically throwing money away lol. Yeah, I understand they would have to spend a little more because they are using more fabric and materials, but they would be making back a lot more in profits selling those larger sizes. The fact is that brands have different business models that target different segments of customers. With fashion relying on word-of-mouth marketing and having low margins, it's common to narrow who you market to simply due to economic realities. Target is one of the only brands (off the top of my head) that has a relatively wide base and fashion is a value add for its business rather than its main revenue driver. There are a ton of practical reasons why brands make the decisions that they make just as I believe that a brand that catered exclusively to size X and up would be a huge success. But to cater to all of the body types of their variables would require greater capabilities which means more capital etc. because you're now accounting for edge cases/unknowns instead of relatively known body types. As this guy said in the video, being a certain height is an edge case and so there aren't as many readily available options for tall people due to the economic realities.

I think fat people can be upset that they dont have many aesthetic options in the sense that many brands will make a standard size dress in plain fabric but make the plus size version in some hideous floral/animal print. But really they should put that energy into supporting the brands which do make quality clothes for bigger people.

It goes back to people being way too concerned about people who don’t want them around.

There’s way more brands who exclude fat people than brands who make clothes for only big people. I would agree that it’s best to just support who makes clothes for you but if there aren’t that many that do or they reduce the quality and just make rags for bigger people then I can understand why people would be upset. I don’t get why people get so mad about something that doesn’t affect them. It makes sense that fat people are mad bc it affects them. It doesn’t affect me so I rather just listen to their experiences and how they feel and be empathetic instead of getting mad that they are mad lol. I yhink people get mad because they just feel like “well lose weight if you’re so mad” and I could understand that if we were just talking about morbidly obese ppl but we aren’t. I know ppl who wear XL and they have a hard time finding clothes that fit them and look good.

No, their downfall was making overpriced, shitty underwear/bras with inconsistent sizing. The last purchase I made that turned me off from the brand is when they sent me a strapless, DD+ sized bra with 50% padding in the cup.

YOU. ARE. DUMB. LOL! VS’s attempt to be inclusive happened after consumers fell out of love with them. They didn’t want any non-conventional models walking for them. No fat, no trans, or no old models. All these compounded with the fact that VS’s product has shit quality and there are tons of options now for lingeries. The final nail to coffin was them refusing to hire trans models for their annual shows and that brought about massive controversy for them. On the other hand brands like Fenty (Rihanna) were hiring really diverse casts for her shows and campaigns. By the time VS tried to backtrack and get on the good graces of public again it was too late lol! Idk why you think that them being inclusive was the cause of their downfall when this is clearly documented online 🤣🤣😭
@babygirl49496 ай бұрын
I would say Victoria’s Secret’s terrible quality and acting like they are inclusive but not carrying sizes beyond triple D in stores was their downfall. They were closing stores left and right and THEN did some weird campaign claiming inclusivity with bigger ppl in the ad but without the glamour of the original Victoria secret brand and still didn’t carry bigger sizes. I’m 138 pounds but wear G and sometime H cup. I’m nobodys overweight but I’m top heavy. I stopped shopping at Victoria secret in high school lol. You can’t say you’re inclusive but don’t carry bigger sizes cmon now.

My problem here is it’s not just they don’t carry plus size women’s sizes. It’s that brands like Brandy Melville which are targeted at kids and younger people only carry clothes for xs/s girls. And anyone who doesn’t fit them is treated like they are fat even tho they are a medium or large and aren’t actually over weight. Low key/ HIGHKEY worsening and promoting eating disorders to young women who aren’t fully developed and going through puberty.
@confusedgirl64346 ай бұрын
if a brand says they make clothes for PEOPLE then it should be for everyone regardless of size gender or disability, if they say they are making clothes for MEN then the clothes should be for men regardless of size, if they say they are making clothes for skinny people then it should be for skinny people, MY problem is that brands advertise their lines as SIZE INCLUSIVE, or made for EVERYONE and their biggest size is a LARGE, or they make clothes for fat people but then they are ugliest things you will ever see, that is false advertising and that is what started this whole argument on TikTok

Dee what they are saying is that most stores don’t carry plus size clothing and the stores that do the clothes are god awful. All plus size people want is just cute clothes in their size and that’s why a lot of plus size people get stuff from fashion nova or other fast fashion brands because most brands exclude plus size people

The reality of the situation is that these brands to not give a f about people of “abnormal” sizes. The idea behind this is that every influencer has “influence” over their audience. And dog whistles like this will promote brands to limit plus size clothing even more. Also, “abnormal” size can vary widely and can be something as unchangeable as your height, cup size, bone density, and other genetical factors that people literally cannot change. Sure, companies do have the right to exclude these people if they wanted to, but i think it would be much more productive if we asked WHY these brands are doing it in the first place. And conveniently you will inevitably arrive to the problem of money.

I’m gonna be honest, I’m a bigger person and I have been in plus size most of my life and I know that every brand is not going to work for me. All this fat phobia stuff is not it, because at the end of the day, you want people to accommodate you on every single aspect and that’s literally not possible. I am somebody that is close to 300 pounds but I know that not all clothes are not going to fit me simply put. I’m on my Fitness journey and all and that’s great, but I don’t expect people to accommodate my size when I know my size is already over the average. Honestly, you can apply that logic to being taller or shorter as well. I feel like sometimes people don’t take into account that there are other body types out there that can’t wear stuff either. It’s not just bigger people that are struggling. He maybe could’ve had better wording, but I understood what he was saying completely and I agree.

I think you should watch Trisha’s take on the issue, I think she explained it pretty well. It’s mostly about how when brands do make plus sizes or whatever they make a certain type of look, it always these obscure patterns, florals, etc. That’s the main issue the fact they can’t replicate the same design on a larger scale, they are always trying to push a certain look and make bigger people look like a table cloth

I don’t really see why everyone is upset. I didn’t see anything fatphobic about it. When I was in Paris, they had xxs and xxxs…like they don’t have those in the US. But underweight people don’t get triggered over it. Most brands don’t cater to the extremes. So you have to find brands that do. It’s really not that deep.

I feel like telling someone to lose weight just so they can fit clothes better is wild to me. Would you gain weight if that meant you would be able to fit clothes better? 9/10 you wouldn't because it's stupid. People shouldn't have to gain or lose weight in order to shop for clothes. Shopping shouldn't be difficult to do. Saying plus sized people don't fit the image of your brand and that's why you don't make clothes for people who are plus sized is like makeup brands saying they don't make shades for darker skin tones because dark skin don't fit the image of their brand. It sounds dumb and it is dumb. Clothes should be for everyone, it's not about being sensitive. People who are able to find their size with no issue at all shouldn't even be apart of this conversation because it doesn't involve you. There's nothing wrong with plus sized people wanting to feel included because it's not difficult to include EVERYONE. And I think one of the main problems within this topic is brands saying they are "size inclusive" when they only stop at a XL or a XXL which are not PLUS SIZED. Why are you saying you include "everyone" when your clothes only stop at a certain size? make it make sense

I don’t think the KZbinr you watch really did his research. This topic did not start because people are upset about finding their size, they are upset because brands that “cater” to them make such ugly plus sized fashion. Honestly, I wouldn’t even say upset, more like pointing out that companies like Torrid and Lane Bryant don’t make cute clothes. It’s normally frumpy looking. They also talk about how brands who have plus sizes also make frumpy clothes for those who are plus size and it doesn’t match the brands straight size options. Another thing is that brands who offer plus sizes will typically limit it to online .

Because they only want size 0 wearing it & repping them.. im not a big gal but i dont like brands saying "i don't make clothes for "xyz appearing" people".. idk dude.. its weird.. i think its like really shallow.. now i dont think thst 700,lb life ALR girls think theyre gonna fit this stuff but like the brands should really go up to a size 12 - 14 or whatever
