Help! I need plant advice! I have a lot of plants, and my monstera currently has fungus gnats 😫 I spent Saturday doing a neem oil treatment and this definitely seemed to help, but unfortunately they’re still there. I’m gonna do it again in 10-14 days, but is there anything else I should do? Thanks for the help!

Pro-tip(s): to help prevent them let your soil dry out all the way and then bottom water when it’s time. Or you can use a 3 parts to 1 ratio of water and hydrogen peroxide. But my favorite method is using Mosquito Bits. I haven’t had fungus gnats in 6+ months since using it in my soil and I have lots and lots of houseplants lol. You can either make a “tea” with the mosquito bits or apply the bits to the soil as directed. If you have fungus gnats you may be keeping your plant a little too wet also- it may be worth sniffing around to make sure the roots aren’t starting to rot. Also, DO NOT UNDERESTIMATE THE IMPORTANCE OF AIR CIRCULATION! it helps evaporate the excess moisture thus improving your chances of avoiding root rot. So make sure you have a fan going in the room! Finally, neem oil isn’t going to do much for you in stopping pests. It’s an okay preventative (and only if you stay ON TOP of it) but it’s not a miracle by far. I prefer Captain Jack’s Dead Bug Brew as a foliar spray for maintenance against pests- it actually uses the same active ingredient as in Mosquito Bits. If you aren’t against stronger pesticides, you may also want to give the Systemic for Indoor plants a try.

Here! Use some sticky traps to catch the adults. Then for the hatchlings/babies, eiether use 1 part hydrogen peroxide 1 part water after your watering routine. Or you can use a food grade powder to kill them that you can find at most hardware stores. Bottom watering is also a great way to make the top of the soil dry to prevent infestations. Hope this helps! And hope your plant gets better! 😘

I'm not to sure what to do. it's getting cold and my aloe plant is starting to show bad signs, but none of them add up. 1) I was busy with life and school, and I neglected my plants. When i was finally able to water, the soil was 100% dry. i was even able to pick up the plant and look at the bottom. my aloe needs a repot/ more soil but idk if it's a good idea since it looks like fall is going to be very cold. (it looks like growth as already stopped) 2) despite being dry, the plant was squishy. I googled this and found it was a sign of overwatering... but that doesn't make any sense 3) one of the aloe leaves (idk if leaves is the right term) died. i ended up pulling it out. It was one of the shortest yet one of the thickest pieces. if anyone could help i'd appreciate it =)
@xlGoldenlx.3 жыл бұрын
I am by no means an aloe expert so take this with a grain of salt- A couple years ago I bought a tiger aloe plant that is doing quite well. Make sure you are giving it enough light, as you can give it a good amount of water but without enough light it can still get root rot. If the leaves are becoming super mushy and yellowing, that's likely overwatering, but if they are crispy and yellow it could be underwatering. You might be giving it a good amount of water and light but a pot too big for the plant, causing excess moisture to rot the roots over time. As long as only 1-2 of the lowest leaves are dying at a time, it shouldn't be too much of a problem, but if the whole plant is wilting or withering I would do more research.
@littlepocketstudios85693 жыл бұрын
@@xlGoldenlx. thank you for the advice! I don't see any yellowing but another lower leaf is starting to wilt. I'm going to get a slightly smaller pot that has good drainage, and I'll also get some new soil. I'm not sure what is happening so I'm just going to repot and hope for the best. As for good news: the other leaves have firmed up a bit. I'm also going to move it away from the windowsill and crank up the heat, because it was thriving during the last moments of summer and now it's not. Quick question, though. Should I cut the dying leaf? Or do I attempt to revive it?
@xlGoldenlx.3 жыл бұрын
@@littlepocketstudios8569 I have never seen a drying leaf (on a succulent) revive itself, but it's not impossible. That chioce is up to you, but other than for aesthetic purposes I would leave it on. Less chance of an infection.
@neonice2 жыл бұрын
@@littlepocketstudios8569 Considering the leaves firmed up after giving water it was just underwatering. Once the way of capillary action within plants gets interrupted they can't restart it which is why a leaf that's begun to dry out or lost a significant amount of osmotic cell pressure can't be revived.

this is not meant in any type of rude way, but I'm almost 100% sure that is not the case. new leaves are usually bright green or pale green. yellowing is usually the demise of a leaf.

1. Watering only when the soil has completely dried out (leaves will start to wrinkle a bit when they want water, and become floppy) 2. Soil with great drainage, preferably terracotta pot with drainage hole to pull excess water away from roots 3. Sunlight and heat (but not too much for some species especially) 4. No misting 5. Fertilising in growing season and not in winter 6. No repotting unless roots are running out of space and becoming root bound 7. Make sure soil is properly absorbing moisture and not compacted 8. Research each succulents needs individually 9. Bottom water and remove excess water after about 20-30 mins
