Playing in the dark isn't bad for your eyesight. Research has show it increases eye strain/fatigue meaning it will be harder to play for a long time. But eye strain is not the same as permanent eye damage, there is no proof that it actually has any long term effects. I've looked into it because I was curious too. Same applies to watching telly in the dark. Aside from having the lights on, having a back light to the screen helps. The reason eye strain is increased is because of the contrast from the screen to the dark room, whenever the light level of the screen changes, your eyes have to readjust constantly. If the lights are on, the room always has a constant light level. Having soft backlighting reduces the contrast thus making a more consistent light level so less pupil dilation so less strain. So technically, gamer LEDs are good for you 🤓
