This was put on and sponsored by the now defunct Boston radio station WBCN. The winner of the Boston Rock n Roll Rumble 1983 won a record contract and radio airplay. Of course Aimee Mann & Til Tuesday won. Also The Del Fuegos, a known early to mid 80's band was the runner-up. The rest was history for 'Til Tuesday with the release of the album Voices Carry with 3 singles Looking Over My Shoulder, Voices Carry and a early big New England area hit Love in a Vacuum. Also Peter Wolfe of J. Geils Band started out as a DJ at WBCN. The sponsor of this event. Rock n Roll history with this old video.

Til Tuesday obviously had far more commercial success but I always thought that the Fuegos were a much better live band.
@neilouellette30042 жыл бұрын
@@swise63 Agree. I've lived my whole life about 35 minutes outside of Boston. Seen the Del Fuegos and Til Tuesday about 3 times each back in the early to mid 80's. Del Fuegos were like J Geils live. A party band. Del Fuegos were great live.

Most of the songs from this appearance never made it to one of their studio albums due to record label execs "not hearing a hit". They are all hits to us Til Tuesday fans. This is a rare find indeed! I saw Aimee Mann in concert in 2024 and she has aged so wonderfully, both in appearance and in vocals and songwriting. What a true gem.

@mollymaguire76302 жыл бұрын
Sadly, not one song from the setlist/video above made the "cut" on their debut LP. This is incredible because, the songs above along with many others that they wrote and performed at their live shows were KILLER! There are studio versions of a bunch really incredible songs that were recorded for the Voices Carry LP. Only 10 songs can be chosen. IMO, there were much better choices than what made the final cut. "From A Distance" (2nd song of the video above) is among the most overlooked . Ditto for "Learning You By Heart" and "Boy". I'm sure that the EPIC Exec's weighed in song selection. All said, GREAT LP !!
