Aimee Mann and Til Tuesday perform a seven song set 3-27-87, on a rainy day in Daytona Beach FL. The BetaGems channel also has "Til Tuesday 9-5-86 TV performance," "Rad/Rock Against Drugs TV ads 1987 - Aimee Mann, Steve Jones, more," "Cheap Trick 3-19-89 Spring Break television performance," "The Fixx 3-19-89 Spring Break television performance," "Vixen 3-19-89 daytime TV performance, Daytona Beach," "Was (Not Was) 3-18-89 daytime TV performance, Daytona Beach," "Information Society 3-18-89 daytime TV performance, Daytona Beach," "Richard Marx 3-18-88 Daytona Beach spring break," "Spring Break 1994 Flintstones Dancers," "PM Dawn, LA Guns live 3-21-92 spring break," "Lenny Kravitz performs in a loincloth March 1992 spring break," "KBC Band (Kantner Balin Casady) 3-27-87 Daytona Beach FL 4 songs," "Primus 3-21-92 Daytona Beach FL w/Ugly Kid Joe," "Samantha Fox 3-18-89 Daytona Beach FL TV performance," "Marky Mark 3-21-92 Daytona Beach FL w/L.A. Guns," "Right Said Fred 3-21-92 Daytona Beach FL w/Brand New Heavies," "3-18-89 Spring Break John Stamos hosts Penthouse Pet bikini contest," "3-18-89 Spring Break dancing, Ami Dolenz, bikini contest."
BetaGems are culled from an archive of over 1000 beta video tapes recorded between from 1983 into the 1990s. Most feature live music performances broadcast on television in San Diego CA, though there are also rarely seen commercials, comedy clips, and other material that doesn't seem to be anywhere else on KZbin or online. Most of the tapes were recorded on a Sony SL-HFT7 Super Beta Theater Hi-Fi Stereo - the same model was refurbished and is being used for these digital transfers and uploads.
In rare occasions where a BetaGems clip does appear elsewhere, we're only uploading if our own beta master is better quality or contains material not seen previously. Much footage comes from public television and public access broadcasts that the taper, who worked for a local cable TV production company in the 1980s, monitored nightly for several years. Some of the programming is strictly regional, mostly from the San Diego area.

@@jumpinjojo Ohhh gosh, I kinda confusd Mann with Lauper as a kid and they only had two top forty hits. :) I really like both Welcome Home and Everything's different now as well. I didn't get into them until later though--about the time that Mann came out with her first solo album. While I do like a few songs on their debut, I pretty much like both of those albums entirely. Bill, first make a note of exactly when each track begins and then type the numbers with no spaces, a colon in between the minutes and seconds, and a 0 before any single digit; so that for example, two minutes and two seconds would be typed as 02:02

@@aidavladoiu3579 don't cry now. Wait until it comes. No need dreading it now. That defeats the purpose of being young. You know I've thought a lot about getting old recently because I just turned 50 and I'm not the kind of person that might age well. I'm 100% rock and roll and in my youth I thought I wouldn't even make it this far. A couple heroin overdoses took me close to not making it. But I've discovered that in being older I'm more confident and I know who I am and I am doing things to feel better and to reinvent myself into feeling younger, exercising and dancing through the streets while doing it. dating younger women on the internet helps.LOL. I'm adjusting. It's not as bad as you might think. You'll deal with it ok. No choice in it. Can't change it and that is for damn sure. The music helps me so much. I had my time to be young. Now it's your turn. And one day you will pass the torch.

I read a review by a famous music critic that completely trashed the album many of these songs came from, their debut, "Welcome home". He said her voice was thin and reedy and the rhythm section, dull and lifeless. Goes to show that you can miss what's glaringly obvious if you're in the wrong mindset. Mann has the voice of an angel, full and strong, and this was live with no multi tracking to help out. It was her choice to keep the arrangements minimal in order to showcase her vocal melodies and harmonies, which the songs were written around. It's dream pop at it's best interpretation, and the emotional impact is breath talking.

Aimee Mann has no bigger fan than I, but guitarist Robert Holmes deserves props, too. He was the Yin to Aimee's Yang, and had a lot to do with forging 'Til Tuesday's distinctive sound, in the studio and live. His tone was lush, complex, and enveloping. Robert bought that black Gibson ES335 especially to record and perform "Coming Up Close." I read somewhere that he thought it had a "farty" tone. I'm not sure why he'd say that: I thought it MADE the song. 'Til Tuesday was pigeonholed as a "New Wave" band (whatever that term was supposed to mean) but I still wish Epic reps had tried to get Country format radio to give "Coming Up Close" a spin. Alternatively, the band's music publisher could have encouraged a '90s Country artist to cover it.

@@michaelmitchell3682 Don't know what necessarily makes a song "folksy," but I'm among the few who believe the 3rd 'Til Tuesday album, "Everything's Different Now" (1986) was the best of the bunch, notwithstanding the fact that the band pretty much disintegrated after Epic gave the record a desultory release. Songs that should have been big hits include: "Rip In Heaven" kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y6fKopJ9Z9B1gJY , "Limits to Love" kzbin.info/www/bejne/qJytZaKbr7emeJo , "Long Gone Buddy" kzbin.info/www/bejne/qaaVYZuur693g5I , and prehaps the most "folksy" of the bunch, "Other End of the Telescope" (co-written with Elvis Costello) kzbin.info/www/bejne/nZ-3Xq14q9yIaMk .
@ronforeman2556
@ronforeman2556 4 жыл бұрын
@Kolin Timothy Agree that "Everything's Different Now" was the best album, and Epic really dropped the ball. "Rip In Heaven" should have been a big hit. "Why Must I" had potential, too, along with "Long Gone Buddy." "Knew You Were Lucky" was a poor choice, though. I know Joey was gone by then, but I think Robert did play on a few of the songs. But Jon Brion had a lot more to do with that album and its sound, which would foreshadow Aimee's stunning solo debut masterpiece, "Whatever" (which under-financed new label Imago didn't know how to promote, either).

Looking and listening back, the only thing 80’s about Til Tuesday is the fashion and even that’s toned down. The music was way mature for the era...they could have defiantly crossed over into the 90’s no problem.. I also over the years come to appreciate guitarists like Robert who served the song, instead of the mindless speed demons of the time....

I know, I'm sad all the time for the past. Some people move on but for me I'm stuck in the 80s. People are correct it's the past move on. I've been told this line starting around the late 90s era. I know the reason I don't want to let those memories of that era go though. Because we where young full of energy good looks adventure and we did things in person with friends and family. So much has changed since the late part of the 90s. Youth is gone Looks are gone Adventure is gone Money is gone As per family Pretty much all my mother's and fathers side of there age which where the fun ones that kept things together are all dead. Cousins don't give 2 sh**s about getting together like we did as kids So I never see them. 2 of the 8 of my immediate siblings are dead. Dad and Mom passed. Mom this August will be a year and dad a year B4 her. Then there's the fact that when there's not even enough income to pay bills well that puts a big fat X on anything related to doing anything that cost money in which now days it is a 100 dollars bill just to leave the driveway. Heck last time I remember us going to the movie theater to was to see The Grinch movie a few years back and heck for me my wife and 2 kids, tickets and popcorn, sodas and candy was $110. That was 2 or 3 years ago.1 could only imagine what the cost is now. Vacations,forget about it,last vacation we took was to Destin 8 years ago. The only way we could afford to go then was we split it with my 2 niece's which I never see anymore. So yeah take me back to a better time mid 70s to early 90s. Anything in that time period is for better than the s**t years I've been in for past 3 decades.

Wow Ami and the tight and sound sweet live ,joey key board synth was off the charts ,they should do a reunion tour a lot of 80,s bands are doing it ,and they are all still alive.

I don't think they were underrated. People say that about the Beatles too which is insane. I think they misinterpret what underrated means. But this band is amazing. With a slightly different production it could work today as well as it did in the 80's... which was a very mixed time for music as we are in now.

Would there be any chance you could make your original rip of this downloadable? I'd love to have a copy of this performance his without KZbin compressing the heck out of it.

We just recently figured out how to dupe to DVD and upload to KZbin, so I'm not sure how to go about making a copy downloadable --
@mickaka

The easiest way would probably be uploading it to a free file hosting service like WeTransfer, DropBox or google drive and then sharing the download link 🙂

Thanks - we still have around 300 tapes left to cull for DVDs and uploads. Please hit me back around the end of the year, we'll probably be done by then and can start arranging to get higher quality dupes out there with one of the file share services.

I wasn't a fan of her putting the bass guitar down that was one of the things I loved about her most was her bass playing. String did the same thing when he went solo thinking he was some kind of virtuoso, i mean he's an okay guitar player but a lot better bass player, better than most give him credit for.

This show was meh. There were too many musicians in the group at this point. It took away from the essence of the group. You can see the building divide in the band that would lead to its end in about 18 months time. Their concert at the Ritz in NYC about a year earlier is a classic. Simply put this was too Mtvish. It felt forced.
