Just installed a Tile Redi pan for my bathroom remodel and it surprisingly wasn’t that hard to install. Called Tile Redi directly and they were a huge help. I know it’s more money then most of the other systems out there, but I liked that it was a one piece system and it was abs plastic versus foam and doesn’t have the weak points like foam systems that fail in the corners, drain, and curb areas. I’d definitely recommend it.

Ive installed one of these. I watched and waited till about the 41 minute mark when it was slightly hinted at how incredibly difficult it is to fill the underside of the pan with mortar when setting the pan. How the pan wants to float up out of level and how much of a mess the mortar is to use. I can't imagine ever installing one again. Good job installing it, it aint easy.
@clayfenlason12409 ай бұрын
How does that overall difficulty compare with, say, Schluter-like systems where you have to independently set and seal corners, seams, etc., once you add them all up?
@MikeHoncho17758 ай бұрын
Does all that mortar that fell through go onto the ceiling below if you dont have access?
@Grizz-one8 ай бұрын
With that amount of morter, definitely will be sturdy shower, however the level of difficulty is higher than other systems.. Not to mention the huge shower curb. Id say Wedi is #1, laticrete foam pan #2, schluter #3 and then this system maybe in specific use cases. Overall great install and useful tips as always sir.
@thflash09msr8 ай бұрын
I’ve seen all those systems have failures whether it be the pan, drain, or curb areas. I’ve yet to see a Tile Redi pan fail because of it being a one piece design so yeah it’s a little bit more difficult to install but it’s more then worth it knowing you won’t have to worry about those failure points like in the systems you mentioned.

Just installed a redi pan that 60 x 48. I got to admit it was stressful. Did use a vibrator tool . I took one of the walls out so there was just two to lay it against. This made it lot easier. This let the ozz come out. The one long wall was with the wall it had no were to ozz out so kept that end up . By the way it took me more like 5 hours. Waiting for it to dry before I claim victory.

That’s a good size pan 👍 it’s nice the drain is sealed but would also be nice to have drain separate 😆 maybe they will make it compression fitting…that would make a world of difference

Great instructional video! Question: If I didn't plan to tile my shower walls, could I still use Redi wall panels or Go Board and install Flexstone acrylic over top the wall panels? Redi wall panels and Go Board seem easier to work with VS greenboard.

Yes, you can install an acrylic wall panel over our Redi Wall boards.

Where do you source that leveler from?
@hohwang99574 ай бұрын
First, love what you are doing overall. According to Tile redi 1/2 inch mortar around The Drain area or shallow area. put too much mortar was put in drain area. result is hard to level pan, too much mortar trapped in drain area most squeezed out , on concrete floor no where for mortar to go so will be hard to glue drain pipe. less mortar in drain and shallow areas.
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher4 ай бұрын
Agreed 👍 that’s the way I’d do it next time. Unfortunately tile specs do not mention that. It’ll all be irrelevant soon though, they are converting to foam pans without the ribs. Thanks for commenting
@johncampbell2145Ай бұрын
How does the air escape from the voids to allow the mortar to completely fill the voids? I wonder if one could prefill the voids with lightweight cement or perhaps 2 part expanding foam before setting the pan. Might be stronger than cement if there were voids due to imperfect install.

Would be interested to see you compare this install to the KBRS system install.
@@BathroomRemodelingTeacherit would be nice to see a comparison using a KBRS pan with integral flanges like the Tile Redi has.
@jeremyrebel89318 ай бұрын
From what it looks like the reason the drain was to high when u set it in was the fact the pan slopes to the middle so the middle of the motor bed needed less height from the edges. So the stick u made with the height level was just for the outside edges? Looking under the pan that u had the depth was definitely less towards middle.
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher8 ай бұрын
Correct 👍
@Eternalityy.6 ай бұрын
Incorrect. That is why he said he took off a 1/4 inch from the 1 and 1/2 inch measurement of the outside edge. This is the recommended way to do it from tile redi. Take your largest measurement, subtract 1/4 inch ,then pour. Perfect install.
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher6 ай бұрын
@@Eternalityy. I called rep and asked about this before installing. that's what I was told. And instructions do say what you are mentioning. After this installation, I would recommend the 1/4" but also taper the mud to conform to pan. So 1/4" below every section of pan. This will help out install. Thanks for watching and commenting 👍

@@Eternalityy. Watch the video again, he took only a 1/8 inch off the 1.5 inch outer edge. But hey, it still worked out but with lots of mortar flowing onto the Sheetrock ceiling below.

Why do you have you have to use self leveler? Since you use mortar wouldnt that just get to level?
@magncity18175 ай бұрын
No, the pan would settle to the floor installed on, thus, if you install on undeveloped floor will be an unlevel pan.

Does the curb need to be filled with mortar as well? I’m trying to figure out how the curb will support a glass wall plus foot traffic if it’s not filled with mortar like the rest of the pan? ( just ordered a tile redi pan) thanks
@BathroomRemodelingTeacher8 ай бұрын
No it does not need to be filled to support a shower door. You’d be amazed at how much foam can handle after being tiled. But ultimately if you feel better about filling with mortar, definitely nothing wrong with that 👍

I like how you always show raw footage and the ugly side of things when it comes to remodeling, people can be very judgmental and quick call you out for things you do or not do. But most haven’t spent a day in an actual construction environment. Setting this pan with no access to the plumbing below is harder than building a liner/mortar shower pan 🤣 We had an old school plumber install one of these and it leaked on the drain connection because he miscalculated and only ended up with about 1/4 inch of pvc to pvc connection 🤣

Why not have a one inch wide fence ripped to the proper thickness around the perimeter. And just screed to that? You have your depth and your inch gap. Lift it up before placing the pan. And have a dam in the middle around the drain.

comment... did drain fitting actually go down all the way... problem with these pans is that the glue weld will set up and not allow anymore movement well before the pan is fully down into the mortar.... COMMENTS? so basically have a risk of an poor glue weld at the important drain fitting.........

With that 750 dollar pan and the amount of mortar you used under it you could used the kerdi system around the walls and including the floor twice for the amount you paid for that 750 dollar tile redi. Honestly it doesn’t seem to be any easier to my.
@justinlittlefield89854 ай бұрын
The good thing about these Redi pans is they are 100% waterproof. Kerdi systems are not. You have to connect the Kerdi membrane together with thinset. Thinset is not water proof. This Redi pan is bulletproof in my opinion and should last 100 years

Need to spend more time showing exactly how runny the mortar needs to be. Video doesn’t do it justice. Use an orbital sander to vibrate the pan. No pad just set it on a microfiber cloth Check your corners if you hear too much squeaking when you dry fit you’re rubbing on something too much. My 20 year old studs needed to be shaved a bit so all sat in without rubbing and leaving the pan uneven.

There’s no waterproof membrane on top of plywood like #30 tar paper that manufacturer recommends in instructions. Since these pans are pre-sloping, I would say you would have to take measurements all over that pan and then do deductions accordingly to those measurements kind of like how you did the leveling of the floor, but leave no screws. Or use different measuring sticks. Way to much mortar coming out where drain was, very nice having cameras to show pipe connection not easily lining up. You don’t have that much time to be playing around when you’re using PVC glue. Manufacturing needs to fix this, I could see leaks in other installations because of too much mortar causing the drain, to never make any proper connection.
