I have Can Do Pressure Washing in Houston TX using the same type of 12VDC pump soft wash system and SH. My primary surfactant is Max Cling from Northern Tool. For rinsing after the SH application, I use my pressure washing system instead of a garden hose. DO NOT FREAK OUT - I just use the gun / wand / extension with NO tip and reduce the engine RPM. I do from the ground or ladder. This provides a far higher water volume for faster and better rinsing, and the pressure is about the same as a garden hose so no damage.

From what i have seen, 10 to 20% SH, 10% Dawn, and 70 to 80% water works great on Tile Roofs, also most people use it as a prewash and then follow it up with there surface cleaner and since the SH works so quickly you can move through the power washing step very quickly and get the roof done in less time. Though I know a lot of people don't want to do that step and that is why they do soft washes in the first place.

Loser Squad HD 123 you void the roof warranty when you do high pressure and you do destroy the tiles with it. Also don’t try this down here in Florida or you will slip and fall because some of those tiles are glaced and others are filled up with sudd from the sugar cane burning which stays behind even after cleaning as a once wet so slippery film you simply can’t walk on those tiles.

There is a problem with this method, IF the roof was put on in Florida in the early 2000s. At that time, they were using "Polystick" as the underlayment, and screwing the tiles directly through the underlayment into the deck with galvanized deck screws. If you use SH (sodium hypochlorite) it will attack the deck screws, which leads to corrosion and then small roof leaks as the screws loose their tight seals to the polystick. This creates numerous small roof leaks, all over the roof. The leaks are usually small, but in Florida quickly lead to large sections of the deck being effected and ultimately rotting out. This is particularly true near ridge vents. Thus, it is wise to go the slow and proven method of pressure-washing with mild chemicals. It takes a lot longer, but extends the life of the roof by at least ten years.

You are correct that is why we try to avoid flooding the roof with chemicals. And washing off with Water the roof before we complete the job to dilute the chemical down to drinking water level.

No, if you know what your doing, you can pressure wash any roof , I've done it for years, now I down stream . Don't use dawn, use laundry detergent, much better.

I do use a respirator and that's it. If you aren't trained good I would recommend good shoes as well. And ensure you have somewhere fresh water available like we store about 100 gallon of water in our buffer tank and have a 1" dump valve on it in case something happens.

Hey, i have a few questions- can we use sh on driveway tiles? Why not use fan tip(45 degree) and cover lot of area instead of using pin point tip? Is it a bad idea to use high-pressure washer directly? It seems to clean well for me without any chemicals

It is low pressure. We apply only with up to 100psi. The 0 degree tip allows us to still apply in area's where there is wind and the customer does not want us to walk on their roof.

Why aren't you walking the roof with a fan tip. I like that you aren't shooting under the tiles though. Try using a carwash soap to keep it wet. I like using something with rainX in it.

Here in Florida the roof is so slippery you try to avoid under all cost to walk on the roof. I had a single story roof I had to walk on and slipped and slided to the point of no control once. After that I stopped walking on the roof especially on a 2 story it is way to risky.

@@mathewgriffith341 I do have 30' extension poles made out of fiberglass but they weight about 130lbs now crawl up a 26' ladder with it and than position yourself like a boom crane. Maybe HULK can hold that and work it for hours but for me it's to heavy and also it bend's to much when extended out so far. Which brings me back to the method I currently use. I used a different setup now with a PVC 10' and 10' extension pipe where needed still using the same tips to shoot up to 30' to cover the full roof. Like I done for a customer down in Wellington to clean her roof which on a 1 Story Level was so slippery I would not even attempt to walk on an 20year old roof tile which may break just on my weight walking on it.

Hi, I need some information, please. What pressure washer can do 21 litres per minute at 1500psi if you are cleaning about 50.meters height and your source of water (pressure washer) is on a truck on the ground?

Most all modern Pressure Washers pumps with 13HP engines can run 5.5GPM so 21 liter a min pumps at up to 5000psi. All you do is to reduce on the pressure control value the pressure down to your 1500psi and you are golden. And we run all on trailers so we carry 300 gallon tote tanks on our trailers but when we run big job's we let a water truck Company show up from where we can use 3000-9000 Gallons of water no problem.

Thank you for asking the question. The answer is "NO" what cause it is the algae which you see it black but can be green as well eat's into the clay tile and destroy's the clay tile over time. So What you can do is clean it proper and than apply a sealer which run's you about $150 per 500sf. It is a concrete sealer you can spray apply. What destroy's shingles in general a lot more is high water pressure. That is why we only recommend soft wash methods to extend to lifetime of a roof. On Asphalt almost to 40 years and Clay/Concrete over 80 years. Also surfactant ensure you do not have to use as much chemicals. And when you see the chemical reaction that it's turning into white foam it is the SH reacting with the organic matter. Once you no longer see that happening you cleaned the roof as good as possible. Sometimes black marks are permanently embedded in shingles which you no longer can remove without destroying the tile itself by using high pressure methods.

I believe the growth on the roof is not "black mold" as you claim, but algae. Mold is black because it has no chloroplasts and mold does not need sunlight for growth and is not going to be green.

Congratulations for the work and whim! Doesn't this mixture of chemicals damage the color of the walls of the house? And if the tiles are painted with acrylic paint or some waterproofing, is there a risk of SH staining?

The Chemical can damage the paint on the house, one main reason you have a 2nd person below you ensuring nothing hit's or stay's on anything other than the roof itself. A lot of Companies like to use a flooding method which I fully disagree with. I prefer to spay just the right about to the right areas. Which takes more time but much better results and happier customers because they honor it more when they know you spend a good amount of time cleaning their roof and even had them confirm first that they are pleased with the result before final payment is made. SH staining can happen but that's why you wet those area's. Also if tiles are painted over you see it when you come onsite and work your way onto the roof for inspection before you start the job. I also if we notice there is a glaze on the shingles for example talk first with the house owner to find out if this is produced or afterwards installed. If the Home owner doesn't know lift care fully a single up with a flat iron to get 1" space between 2 rows to confirm it for yourself. Always be open with customers and bring up any concerns you may have. If onsite find out the job is to risky inform your customer about your concerns and if they mind to sign wavers. Lay it out for them in a nice way. But cover your 6 because even a now maybe mad customer will be maybe put a negative review so be it but you don't have a law suite against you.

Hello Malik, how big of a green gray moss area do you have? I would recommend you use 8% SH with DAWN soap mixed with water and soak spray it on and leave it on for 1h on the moss areas. Than you spray the full roof with 3% SH water mix as a Softwash. Make sure the chemical reaction starts within 10-15sec of you spray on the chemical. Let is sit for another 45-60 min and than you use Just Jet water so use your high pressure 20liter a min pump and just rinse it all off. High pressure void's the warranty of any roof material and can destroy it meaning you be liable for the damage. Message me via email to [e-mail] with photos and I guide you thru the work process. Moss has roots which grow into the tile material and so with the chemical you destroy the organic matter without breaking the tile material ending with a very happy customer and a finished product you can drone document or photos take for your portfolio.

nope have no need to use xjetting we upgraded to full diaphram setup which shoots with our own JROD's up to 60ft now no problem. Our biggest worry is chemicals to run of the roof and may harm or kill plants below or grass.

Using the Xjet on a roof would require having a container/ bucket on the roof with you, that could turn into an unsafe situation very fast. Very risky, be safe if you do..... Good Luck!

Any Diaphragm pump can run SH without a problem. Just when done you run pure water thru it and you are all good. I run the water thru it anyhow when I rinse of the roof or house siding anyhow :-)

Most of the chemicals get's neutralized when it is reacting with the algae on the roof. About 90% is been used up by the algae itself the rest is been watered down and destroyed by the UV light from the sun within hours. I hope this answers your question. So when you dilute SH with water it get's also neutralized to a safe drinking level as well. Most City Water's do contain SH just so you know.

I do use SLOWFLO but the foam is because of the higher concentration of SH in my mix which reacts instantly with the black algea on the roof shingle which is open poor so you don't have much run off with my method because I am not like a lot others just flooding the roof with chemicals.

really depends on the house and access too, most single story start at $299 but can go up to like $3000 when like it's a 8000sf house with Boat docks which are 1/4 mile away from the road so that we have to carry it all down there.

We ended up with 94 liter at 13% SH. We lost about 26 Liter on the first day because the rain started to down poor on us so the SH was back to been just water.... :-( Also don't forget these roof tiles had no sealer or glace on it so almost 50% are absorb into the single itself and won't run off. So double check what type of roof you are washing. Like brand new glace tiles I use on a same size roof about 35 liter.

Why not use a flat surface cleaner on a carbon fiber pole ? Totally biological and probably a better result .. There are flat surface cleaners that will work on a pole .. . i think you may find it is a very good option

Simple answer : You void manufacture warranty of the roof. And are in for a law suit from the owner and roofing Company. The American Roofing Association states clearly only to use Soft Wash methods with SH to clean roofing in the USA. And 2nd with a flat surface you need walk on the roof no fiber glass pole will work without you having to walk on those roofs. I had roof where we had to walk on it it is posted on our website which is over 8000sf big where a 2000sf pool screen porch didn't gave us any other access. So we walked on it and 15 tiles broke in the process which lucky us we knew it will happen so we had replacement tiles bought upfront and once finished we replaced those all for the Home Owner free of charge. And here in Florida the slip and fall risk is over 80% when you walk on those black algae roofs even with a 3/12 pitch you will come down hard. Which jacks up our insurance so we don't do it.

In German you call it Chlor which is also use in every public swimming pool too. As long you rinse off with water it will dilute to the point that is is neutralized.

But water which has Bleach in it running of gutters , walls etc have in most cases are not directed to the water sytem... You have to Reclaim it thsi water if possible . If Bleach is legal to be used in Germany on roofs and walls etc ( external applications ) i would glad to know this but i am pretty sure it is not allowed Sir because it seeps into the ground water. i am not saying i know this as a fact 100 % but i am pretty confident that it is not allowed .

Thank you for asking and not if you are shooting onto the roof while having wind. If you can walk on the roof you can use a 40 or 25 degree tip. But for distance you need a 0 degree with pressure in order to shoot up onto the roof.

If you have brushes you either pre wet or cover them up with plastic sheeting. On this particular house we had no brushes to cover up since it was all only grass. Importance like I state it is a 2 person job.

Wouldn't a 50/50 mix on a pre wetted roof, sprayed in a fan patern have got into all the areas first spray and been quicker? Seen jobs like this done in an hour, a days a very long time, thats like taking a day to spray your lawn

Yes and no. if you pre wet a roof the solution will not stay in place. 2nd you do not walk on those concrete shingles or even clay tile shingles. You will break first the singles and than end up sliding and falling of the roof. On asphalt shingles which have a lower pitch and it's safer to walk on you can apply it by walking on the roof without slipping and falling. The risk of falling on those tiles is way to great and don't forget we are in Florida so our roof pitches are a lot differ from what is been build up north. If there is any little bit on of water on the roof as you try to clean it is is like soak water, extremely slippery and you will destroy customer property and might end up killing yourself.

Yes use %13 SH and Surfactant with Water. Depending on the strength you need to apply mix in the Water. Most roof will require a 3-5% SH to Water mix. So for every Gallon of SH 13% you use 0.8 Gallon on 10 Gallon of water and you get a very close mixture of around 5% ... hope I didn't screw up on math.

@@jamesmitchell6288 lower more about 5-6% at the end. You don't want it to high and apply more in layers or you might have problems with the underside/material which is under the shingle. Less is more just ensure it's run off is reduced that's why a surfactant is so important.

okay you spoke about how dangerous the stuff is .. so why in heavens would you wanna leave it on your roof ??? the correct way is to put that stuff on and immediately wash it off ... You need a some type of rinse cycle going on you don't leave bleach in your clothes right?? now I want you to make a video of the roof in about 4 years and look at how much its faded .. these soft wash companies in south florida crack me up .. they're leaving you with problems in the future .. I guess if one is just renting the property they won't care but to a home owner they might want to be cautious

ok a few things you can't see but we saw onsite was a thunderstrom was moving in which was a down poor so mother nature did the rinse for us. But the other thing you also should know those roof tiles are not easy to clean up with just water because they are very poors so they absorb like a sponge and don't release even when you wash down with thousand of gallon's. Watch a little closer on the video and you will see when I only apply a thin layer that the tile is fully absorbing the chemical. With the lower pitch roofs down here in Florida things are a lot different from up north. The bigger importance is the run off to be neutralized with water on the ground so it don't destroy plants and grass.

Dee double u for one the method he is using is the proper method that (Arma) the shingle manufacturer recommends to clean there product . You cant just spray 4% mix up there and rinse it right off ,you have to give it time to kill the mold/ mildew or any other organic growth on the roof.Sodium hypochlorite is a sanitizer and cleaner for many things,also it is in our water that we drink ,its part of the cleaning process of the water to kill off any bacteria in the city drinking water.Sodium Hydroxide is also an Oxidizer ,which is why your trying to say 4 years later look at the roofs that these softwash companies do,but what you dont understand is ...so is the sun ,the sun is responsible for 90% oxidation ,so that means if a homeowner has is roof soft washed the correct way,because it has black Algae all over it ,the end product you are seeing is the roof being restored to its original color,which usually has not been seen for many many years.If it was the wrong way to clean a roof ARMA would not endorse it on there shingles.And if it was the wrong way ,i would of been out of business 19 years ago.....dont quit your day job

@@scottruch674 don't forget ARMA focus on asphalt shingles, Roof tile shingles absorb the fluid you stray on differently. 80% of what you spray on is absorbed by the shingles once you did a section of a roof it already worked it's way in under 2 min thru the shingle so once you apply the water it dilute it's strength down till it's no longer a hazard. When you do asphalt shingles you have only the very thin surface to clean so you use less strength and more surfactant .

@@lsellclumanetsolarenergyll5071 yes but Arma has said over and over again through research it dont matter the style roof or material,a soft wash is the way to do a roof period ,and yes the tiles react the same as a wood shingled roof it absorbs quickly but depending on how bad they are ,you have to let them set and do there thing,they can be stubborn sometimes, i put as little of my mix as possible in an area and gauge how long it takes to start working .I also use proportioners on my setups to quickly adjust things ,ive been in this game since 2001 full time for a living, so that guys comments gave me a good laugh .And fyi good video

actually you do. Those old Boral tiles breaking apart because of the Florida sun. Now you put pressure to it and they break into pieces. I suggest you better learn your industry and their products before you comment on it.
