Barry’s Method changed how I thought about music education. This should be taught to every young player who is first exploring jazz music. This has given me so many ideas and has also helped me use my practice time more efficiently. Having “small” concepts to focus on is really beneficial. I think a lot of people get so overwhelmed and don’t know where to begin. Approaching and Examining 2-5-1’s in an organized way like this has helped me a lot. Great video.

The way you explain Barry Harris' method really opens a lot of pathways to new & inspiring lines.

Reviewing this lesson again and have to say this is really a stepping of point for those of us who want to improvise. Once the concept that a dominant chord is three pieces and the permutations approaching them are endless it's clear that notation while useful and important, is almost fruitless. No sooner do you make something then you modify it immediately and soon you are building things that sounds good! Thanks Chris!

My teacher too. I studied with Chris in ‘93 and did attend two classes with BH however my skill level was much too low to truly absorb the information. I’m now taking Skype lessons from Chris and I believe he is among the very few able to keep this music alive. We should all support him.

Thanks so much! These video's are incredibly helpful! I always walk away with so much inspiration :) (Seeing intermediate and advanced jazz theorie being applied to guitar in this way is just so enlightening)

Also start the half steps below on the and of the beats. Playing your ideas with a backing track is helpful for listeners in how they work against chords.

Thanks so much for your great content. Could you please give some specific context examples of where to use the 7b5 and dominant 6th scales? Also if you could break down comping on a blues or rhythm changes I'd be incredibly grateful. I still haven't got my head around these 6th dim ideas on dominant harmonies. Cheers!
