John teaches you how to correctly mark out an install herringbone wall tiles. John doesn't use expensive tools just a level and hand tile cutter.

Thanks for this amazing tutorial! I’ve watched several herringbone videos but adding the initial center box to work out from makes so much more sense!

Thank you!!! That was excellent!! Is that sanded grout? It looks a little grainy...
@LondontradecollegeАй бұрын
No it was just fine powdered grout. John says sanded grout is best used when using a wider tiles joint spacing ie 5mm has it has a thicker consistency.

Us Brits are fanatics for measuring everything to perfection. The *only* thing I would recommend to people watching this video, is to do like the Germans do with tiling. Always comb or rake the ridges at a 90 degree (perpendicular) angle to the LONG side of the tile. That way, the lengths of the ridges are the shortest and air can fully escape through the air grooves as you apply pressure to set the tile into the wall. Trapped air = impediments to close to perfect adhesion of the tile back. Leave the swirling rake lines to beginners.

So, is it the same process for tiling a floor?
@Londontradecollege7 ай бұрын
Hi - from John he says the measuring out technique is the same

Thank you, I appreciate you replying to my question. John makes it all seem so simple, it gives people like me the confidence to have a go. Though, I'm sure it will take me longer and I will probably be alot messier too.😂😂

How come they are not falling down of weight ?
@Londontradecollege10 ай бұрын
The tile adhesive used has a high grip quality, so holds the tile in place once in position. Also the tiles used were light weight ceramic 100mm x 200mm.
@50842047 ай бұрын
They do, very slightly. That is why, especially at the beginning, you constantly check the gaps and distances. When the adhesive sets - the tiles stop moving and you can easily go up, as the whole contraption supports itself. In the case of heavy tiles, you set these on a baton, then go up using a similar principle.
