George woiuld gwve loved it! I attended his memorial service at Griffith Park in Hollywood california capital records played his songs and when they played my sweet lord everyone cried. A year later i met his sister,pete best and micky dolenz and fab four at liverpool days in pasadena california

Meredith Wilson was born in Mason City, Iowa in 1902. No, he did not write the song when he was 8 years old. He wrote it for The Music Man which opened on Broadway in December of 1957.
