Plan B yes its insured. I don't see it in HD when flying (pending signal strength it can be 720 or 1080 down link). Its only when I download the SD I get the full 4K view. This video was done over 3/4 flights. I cut alot of footage so I can concentrate on certain things that i wanted to show. I have footage of waves crashing against the rock that I need to edit (over 2 hours of flight footage to go thru.....still). You are the drone master. Ive been close up to it on boats quite a few times....wondered about the tower roof..it looks like copper or brass of some kind...sure is non ferrous...they needed a metal roof that wouldnt rust away so they used copper or brass...as you can see the iron and steel under it is shot through with rust...that roof is worth a lot ltf money....but no one will ever get it....sure love these views of T rock
@GeistView7 жыл бұрын
BlankUberEverybody I think its also made out of copper. I think the state should dismantle the top portion (all the metal) in sections and fly it off the rock and rebuild it at the Colombia River Maritime Muesum in the big hall (where the old submarine bit use to be). Cap the top with a stainless steel disk. Otherwise its just going to get to the point where high winds will just rip it off. Save what they can before its too late. I think it would be cool if it was put in the museum like i said but with a becon inside slowly turing (tilly shines again). Its sad seeing her in this state. :(

These were taken with my Phantom 3Pro launched from Ecola Point. It's about 4min one way from Ecola park. The best launch point is from the Tillamook head trail from Indian Head beach. Go up the trail, don't use the 1st opening you see the lighthouse from (over the cables). Keep going about 100' farther up and there will me a larger opening. When you fly back be aware the wind hits the cliff face and shoots upwards, it will make the drone dance a little bit (hand catch is the safest). There are eagles in the area but never had a problem. If there are lots of birds over the rock keep your distance and don't disturb them same with the seals. I mostly fly out there with my P4P (my later Tilly video's) and get about 10min over the rock if launched from the trail. From Ecola, it's pretty much you get there its time to RTH. Fly out with a head wind. That way you have a tail to push you back.

If you have time to answer...In July I hope to fly out to the Light with a P4P for some video, but mostly still photography. Do you know of any restrictions in summer months due to birds? I am thinking of launching from Indian Beach--your recommendation? Also in what mode did you travel outbound and inbound? P or faster? Seems cruising faster, especially in a headwind, would be the best choice battery wise. Great job, thanks much!
@GeistView5 жыл бұрын
There always birds out there. Just worse in the summer. If you are disturbing them you are too close. I don't fly from Indian Beach, I launch and land from the Tillamook head trail. As you walk up the trail you will see a small little notch where you "could" launch from but leaves very little for error. Keep waking you will come across a nice open spot just off the trail. The wind is mostly a cross wind as you pass half mile rock. If you do fly in a wind make sure its a head wind heading out, that way you get a push coming back. Launching from Ecola takes 4+ min just to get there. And you get maybe 5-6 min over the rock. From the place I suggested above it takes about 2+ min to get there and you have about 10-15 min over the rock (wind at the rock pending). This was all shot on my P3P all my new stuff is with the P4P. Don't forget your ND.

@@skydriver101 Watch my video "Sentinal in the Mist". The small rock group in the last part is half mile rock. The the launch points are about 1/4 mile up the trail. You cant miss them. Just fly normaly. No need to fly in sport. Once im out over the cliff and everything is ok I use Tap to Fly and just wait. If you get too low on the back you will loose signal (the building blocks it). Let it go RTH till you can see the camera feed again. No need for a crazy RTH height since you will be in the - altitude if you launch from the look out points. I used 50m for my RTH. On a side note. If there are seagulls they might get near your Drone to have a look. Eagles just sit and watch it (see my last video and you will see what I'm taking about). You in Lee Vininig?

About how much time did you have at the lighthouse before you decided to head back? Any specific battery percent for a "safe" level to return with?
@GeistView7 жыл бұрын
Sorry for the late reply, if the wind is calm I can get about 10 min hover time at the rock. I head back when the system tells me its time to return (the drone calculates how much power to get there and how much it takes to make it home). I normally land with about 27/29% battery remaining.
@TheBlur817 жыл бұрын
Geist View Thank you. I'm considering doing this in April. My only fear is a headwind on the way back that the app won't calculate for, but will probably use sport mode on the way back. 10 min helps and will help me factor in stuff. I also have a P4P with a high capacity.
@GeistView7 жыл бұрын
TheBlur81 I fly with just a slight headwind (just barley moves the grass) on the way out so I have a headwind on the way back. When you get to the rock, hover and check the level to see if it's windy at the rock. Have a plan before you fly out of what you want to record when you get there. If you get close use tripod mode. I use tap fly on the outbound and RTH back. Watch out for birds in April.
@TheBlur817 жыл бұрын
Geist View Thank you so much for the info. I definitely won't fly if there's any wind and always scared of birds... Your flying skills are second to none!
@GeistView7 жыл бұрын
TheBlur81 Run your first battery out to get a sense of the wind and conditions at the rock. That way you have a general idea of what you are dealing with. Also gives you a idea of how many birds are in the area. I do all my flights out to the rock in Dec/Jan so no risk of disturbing a colony of birds. You can also do a launch from Tillamook head. There are several points on the trail where you can do a launch from. Just be aware of trees and you might need to do a hand launch or landing. You will have all kinds of hover time from the headland. Ecola takes about 5 minutes to get to the rock. If the wind is down be carefully of the ocean. Especially in the gap to the left (south) the waves will shoot up high from there. You will also need to wipe down your lens during battery swap because of the spray/ mist. The front door has a wind tunnel effect just be aware. Also if you are in front of the front door be aware there is part of the old railing right behind the drone. Don't back up without going up first. If you go behind the tower be aware you will loose signal. I had my RTH altitude set to 100 meters to be safe. You will have people come watch the screen. It can be a hassle. Especially if you are trying to do something and they want to see something else. If near the structure like I get make sure you are on tripod mode. So you get full 360 Protection and slows down the drone. There is a slight delay just be aware.
