Tiller Truck Making Impossibly Tight Turn - Tractor Drawn Aerial

With tight congested apartment complexes, high density town homes, and new concentrated business centers, it can be difficult to get to all the sides of the buildings. Add in parking lots at full capacity, making it almost impossible access where you need to go. Here’s a great example in Pooler, Georgia, where it would be incredibly challenging-if not impossible-for a straight frame aerial to make this corner. If cars had been parked in the top part of this parking lot, it would’ve prevented the truck access to the bravo or charlie side of the building. The power of the Tractor Drawn Aerial.

The mobility of that tiller truck is amazing,one of my fondest memories is when I went to Boston in 1960 my father and I were in line ar a deli and in comes some firefighters from a firehouse across the street my father was a bomber pilot at a AFB north of Boston in N.H. they start talking and ask if would like to have a tour of the fire house and we did of course me being a young boy was fascinated by firefighters and the trucks not only were they wonderfull they had a tiller truck that needed a maintenance check and ask if I would like a ride I very excitedly said yes then the said sorry their was no room in the cab I was terrible disappointed they fooled me and told I had to ride with the tiller operator such a wonderful experience I will never forget it I wish the children of these firefighters could know how great and kind to a little boy that there fathers and grandfathers were that America is far gone I truly miss that America.

There is a fireman at the back of the unit who can steer the rear axle allowing it to go where it wouldn’t otherwise. Still takes great skill on their part.

There was a house fire across the alley from me. The alley is about fifteen feet wide and one way in and out. The ladder truck pulled in there easily. What surprised me was how easy they backed it out of there. Definitely a good driving crew.

There is two drivers in one fire truck for one is main and second driver behind the truck as you guys notice driver cabin beside ladder, second driver turn the truck in opposite direction so they turn properly. Sorry for my English but i know how this is work.
