Nice and clean, great job. I took the nodes off the bamboo and thought I made a mistake. But after seeing your video, I am now glad I did.

The key (as in any situation) is to not take things too far… lol!

Darn good at what you do sir, I’m just beginning and working on my first self bow using white oak. Your bows are definitely above my pay grade but I’ve still learned quite a bit by watching. thanks

Can we talk about this tillering gizmo? This is the second time seeing one, Thad and his speed bow builds show one, but it isn't discussed... looks easy enough to construct. Flat belly? How far does the pencil tip stick out? Any other details would be GREATLY appreciated. ~Tim

There are a few different videos out there on how to make a tillering gizmo, and true to your observation, they are pretty easy to construct. As for the depth of the pencil tip, it should be adjustable so you can get a reading on progressively bending limbs - with the pencil protruding just a little more at each stage of the draw length. I have 2 that I use - one is longer at about 5” (for when the limbs aren’t flexing very much) and a shorter one about 3” for finer readings as the limbs begin to flex more. As for the shape of the belly, mine has a slight crown - the product of my faceted tillering technique. I only measure tiller with a gizmo on the center of the limb.

Good video bud, tiller is always the hardest part for me. I’m always chasing the perfect tiller or get impatient and rush it. Probably why I break a bunch of bows lol

Thank you! And Yeah… I’ve broken a bunch of bows too! Lol

bow is looking very nice, i hope but doubt mine will stay within parameter's so nicely the whole way along. obviously a lot of experience in this build

Camera angles can make observations tenuous. Given that proviso ... it appears that center of bow is sitting at center of tillering cradle and string is also being drawn at center. I assume arrow shelf will be located bit above center and string will be drawn tiny bit higher than that. Shouldn't string be drawn more in accord with where it will be in "real life"?

Short answer is yes.

If you take a look at the scale it is offset to the right on the tillering tree. The riser is centered on the cradle. When I get around to cutting in the grip, it may help with the perspective on the arrow rest. I'm learning that making these videos is like making bows - there's always the next one! Lol
