At SeaLand of the Pacific, Tilikum was abused by trainers and whales alike. He was starved and raked by other orcas. His life was a little bit better at Seaworld Orlando, but not by much. Apart from Taima, the other female orcas never really accepted him into their pod. He was mostly kept in isolation. He also battled serious health issues for which he had to be medicated. He lived a sad, sad life.

Its ocean water. He was in a bay. Most oceans dont look like hollywood movies. Im no advocate for the kidnapping of animals and putting them into captivity, but sealand sold these animals to seaworld after a trainer was killed. Its sad to say but sealand was more humane than seaworld. They kept them in natural waters. As much as you can plug you're ears ...these orcas would never make it in the wild. Activists know this and so do .orgs but they continue to profit off of peoples heartstrings and push this narrative, these orcas.. some are inbred, deformed unhealthy and most of them would never find their pods if released if their pods are still living. Watch the story of luna. Its gut wrenching . But they pushed to release her., she lived a depressed life. .. being black sheeped. Blackish is not 100% honest. What needs to happen is people being punished for the kidnapping of orcas. Funny how government allows it to happen. I.e further reading, it seems like it has become illegal. Hpwever places like seaworld will now just inbreed most likely( though they already have) Inbred animals have no place in the wild. Now the only way to stop it ..is people need to stop going to these places.

What I don’t understand is that in the movie blackfish the two sisters that witnessed Keltie’s incident said it was easy to tell which whale pulled her in because he was the big one with the flopped over fin. From what I can see here there are two whales that have a flopped over fin.

@tursiopss
@tursiopss 2 жыл бұрын
Yes actually it is consider the attack was caused by the females as Tilikum was in a very low social level there (also mentioned in blackfish) so it is less likeable that they even allow him to get closer to the trainer when she felt in the water
@46Orca
@46Orca 2 жыл бұрын
All three of the whales had flopped dorsals by the time of the Sealand attack. I have ZERO doubt that the witnesses were as truthful as they could be but they hardly knew one whale from the other. They would have seen glimpses of the whales lasting only a second at a time during the attack. I would expect them to be capable of making a positive ID of which whale was primary (if any of them was primary) during the attack. It's also possible that they were pressured either unconsciously or purposely when recording the interview for Blackfish. Also important to remember that the Blackfish interview was filmed over a decade after the attack at Sealand, and Tilikum had just been involved in 2 other incidents involving deaths. Humans slightly rewrite memories each time they play them in their minds, given events happening closer to the time of the interview the witnesses could have easily convinced themselves that Tilly could have been the only possibility to have instigated the Sealand attack.

Your sarcasm is noted, and I would say that Tilikum didn't live a happy life in captivity given his prior incidents which resulted in the deaths of 3 people. I would say that he did live an average life expectancy for a male orca, especially given that wild female orcas live on average for 46 years (upto 70-80 in rare cases) and wild male orcas live on average for 31 years (upto 50-60 in rare cases) and Tilikum died at 36 years old. The average life expectancy for captive killer whales is typically in the 20-30 year age bracket, if they're lucky enough to survive adolescence.

Lolita/Tokitae, Morgan and all of the Russian Orcas are probably the only whales that would be decent candidates for living in a seapen or being released fully. Tilikum and almost every other captive should not even be considered for full release (MAYBE a seapen) because of their general health, dependency on humans, and the state of their teeth, not to mention the fact that we have absolutely no idea where most of the wild-caught captives come from - we just know the majority of them came from Iceland. Without knowing who their families are, they have zero chance of making it in the wild and combine that with their horrible health, you're just asking for disaster. There is also no guarantee that the family they knew when they were calves are even still alive.

I saw documents about Tilikum on Tumblr and apparently he hates change? so that could be a problem if he was put in a seapen, away from trua, with climate change, different water and unfamiliar humans
@CoronaTheFatCat

Orlando All of the whales have adverse reactions to changes. The majority of them hate construction noise, and many people are very excited about the Blue World Project that SeaWorld is supposedly planning (though they haven't even applied for permits yet), but they fail to remember that construction that close to the tanks will likely stress out all of the whales to no end. And when I say MAYBE, I mean MAYBE Tilikum and some other whales could be considered for retirement in a seapen, if his health allows, but a much better option would be to build a large retirement facility with tanks modeled after the one built for Keiko in Oregon, which filtered in natural sea water (much better than living in a heavily chlorinated tank), had water jets to simulate ocean currents, various rocks and plants and even some small animals like crabs. That tank only cost $7 million (in 1995) and with SeaWorld being a multi-million dollar company, they could easily build a similar retirement tank that could house at least 2 whales. Also, Tilikum isn't always housed with Trua. Some recent photos and videos on Instagram have shown Trua in with the other whales, but Tilikum is no where to be seen, meaning he must be on his own during these times.

So all you people who think freeing Tillikum is a great idea -- you're proposing taking a six-ton animal who associates human beings with food and affection, and who has a reputation as a "killer "whale, and turning him loose into the North Atlantic. Sure, NOTHING can go wrong with that! The minute he turns up near a human settlement someone will be waiting with a shotgun to take a shot at him. . .the idea of releasing him is ABSOLUTELY insane!
@fathobbit214
@fathobbit214 10 жыл бұрын
You can't "FREE" a wild animal, born of it's natural parents in an ocean. You can only return it to it's natural environment. By the way the North Atlantic is quite big so the whale will have plenty of room to co-exist with humans without hunting them out. Are you an American by chance, because you just seemed a tad stupid that's all.

Your an idiot. He killed three trainers because human beings have tortured him his whole life, took him from his pod at just 2 yrs old and locked him in solitary "medical tanks" for upto 14 hours a day no larger than the local pool. Before you go running your big mouth do some research, not one orca, that's right not a single orca has ever killed anyone in the wild and they actually are usually very docile in the wild when encountering human beings. Maybe all the attacks and deaths that occur in captivity have something to do with being locked in a cage only about 100/80 ft long and a mere 35 ft deep being forced to perform everyday for all of their lives, how would you feel if you were locked in a tiny room for 30 yrs.

3:33 is where we see Nootka IV, Haida ll and her calf Kyuqout in the show pool. 6:11 is where we see Tilikum in the module pool. Sealand of the Pacific was a terrible place. The tanks were too small and the training methods were abusive. The show pool was 20 feet deep, 20 to 30 feet wide and 50 feet long. And before Kyuqout was born, all three killer whales were placed there to perform shows all day. And that's where the training took place. When Tilikum arrived, the trainers paired him up with the females and had them perform a trick and if Tilikum got it wrong, all animals were punished by not being fed meals. This led to the two females displaying aggression towards poor Tili and most of the raking took place in the module. The module pool was 12 feet deep, 23 feet wide and 30 feet long. And at night, all three whales were crammed in there.The trainers would also play this game called keep away which if the orcas were playing with their toys and were naughty, they'd take it from them. And this is what led to Tilikum becoming so possessive over whatever entered the water with him. I am so glad Sealand was shut down because it was just a sh!tty place for these poor orcas to live. It really was. May the poor guy Rest in Peace ❤

***** Seaworld is only about the circus shows! It is what makes them money. Seaworld doesn’t teach you anything about orcas. It’s once when you read about them, watch nature does cumentaries that you realize seaworld has FUCKED UP everything about the orca by keeping them in captivity... they are social animals. they live in pods that consist of only DIRECT family members. seaworld thinks it can just mix these whales up and expect them to get along? no wonder you see the orcas bullying each other. orcas live in this family pod...FOREVER! these pods consist of 3-4 generations of family members. Even the males stay with their mother, sisters, nieces, and nephews. only during certain times of the season that he will swim to other pods to mate. He comes back to his mom's family. Again seaworld has ignored this. Instead, they separate mothers from calves justifying it by saying the calf is “independent.” orcas speak different unique languages in different family pods. just because these orcas are black and has a white eye patch does not mean they understand each other. it's like you were placed in a room with a Chinese and German person and live their for the rest your life not communicating because you cant understand each other. yet again, seaworld drops them all in a swimming pool and say they are all one "pod" and freinds. seaworld orcas are strangers to each other. orcas are apex predators. i didn’t really understand why people were soo shocked about the attacks and kills on the trainers. orcas kill and eat great whites for fuck sake! seaworld thinks these animals are docile and enjoys being stepped on and ridden like a surfboard? orcas are migrant animals. that means they travel, move to different parts of the ocean depending on hunting season. they swim avg. 100 miles a day. besides humans, orcas are only mammal that’s spread out across the earth. you can find orcas in all the oceans of the world (70% of the planet!). seaworld places them in a chlorinated swimming pool. it is a big NO-NO to inbreed in wild orca society. female orcas will only mate with the oldest orca males from a different pod because there is a better chance that their daughters wont mate with their fathers in the future. seaworld, however, in-breeds their orca. Tillikum is the daddy to most of seaworld’s orcas. Don't even get me started on their intelligence and ability to problem solve, their hunting techniques, how they care for their closely related family members, long life-span in the wild, and much more that make these creatures really amazing. yet seaworld limits them to performing "tricks," splashing the audience with water, and a boring monotonous existence. seaworld has not respected anything about the orca and its society. seaworld just sees them as moneymakers. at least AZA zoos are sensitive to their animals, they do research, they study their animals in the wild, and educate the public by trying to mirror their animals' enclosures as best as possible to that of the animal's natural habitat. they don’t introduce two lions out of nowhere because they know the lions will kill each other!! they don't place an elephant in a concrete box with no pool to cool itself, grass to graze, and mud to play with. seaworld puts these animals in a plain chlorine water swimming pool, disregards orca social structure, and forces them to be circus clowns. seaworld might inspire a kid to read more about the orca but after, that kid will just realize how fucked up seaworld is..
@yellogalchun
@yellogalchun 9 жыл бұрын
First, if Seaworld is the only reason why you give a crap about orcas, then you are dumb, uneducated, and shallow. You need to get off your high horse and realize that there are millions of other species that live on this Earth besides humans. Seaworld might have been an introduction to orcinus orca 50 years ago, but it is 2015. Scientists have learned everything about them in captivity, there is nothing left to learn. What is important is learning and observing them in their natural enviroment (the ocean!) along with their natural behaviors. Modern technologies allow us to do this. Captivity is useless except to those who only enjoy these animals for PURELY ENTERTAINMENT purposes.

No inbreeding at Seaworld, ya say??? Katina and Taku are mother and son. They have a daughter named Nalani. Taku is the father AND brother of Nalani. =INBREEDING! Seaworld seperates babies from their mothers too. Youngest was Keet. He was separated from his mom at 1 year 8 months. These animals have life expectancy similar to humans. Dimitris kapoios some of those are on point like the bathtub argument but others aren't strong. Like the thing about Hugo and the brain aneurysm... They don't know what causes them. According to Florida Institute for Neurological Rehabilitation, it may occur after a brain injury or infection. So yes, it might have not caused it but it also could have. Also, the whole thing about the distance the whales travel... those are some pretty big areas, even the residental area covers the coast of 2 states and part of canada, and they are much bigger than even the biggest tank. How can you even try to use that to justify them in a tank. And according to a Google search 10 sources confirmed the 75-100 miles a day. I appreciate this page though, cause there are a lot of anticaptivity people that spew crap. Also it forced me to look deeper. I will be visiting it later, to do deeper research.

An Nie Loffredo The fact that they travel long distances doesn't mean that they do it cause its fun. That video is from Sealand of the Pacific. And one of the most important stuff that Blackfish avoid to say is that SeaWorld is not the same as Sealand of the Pacific. If you check a video made a few days ago and called "Tilikum's true story" you will see that SeaWorld had considered the negative effects the conditions in a park like Sealand of the Pacific could have on a killer whale, and parks were normally supposed to follow some specific rules about the containment of such animals.

i said shame others dont get it either , it doesnt take much brain power to know whales shouldnt be kept in goldfish ponds in fresh water not sea water the list goes on never mind the fack sexually abuseing whales is a bit strange to , personally i think theres a cult around seaworld of people who like to masturbate them with a cows vigina ps they do 100% do that

thr brain dead dont realise 2 other things althouth the encloseure is smaller it has water flow 1 its seawater 2nd it changes so unlike the tanks at seaworld they were atleast not constantly swimming in their own piss and shit

How the hell did they get away with doing this? Unacceptable living conditions. I don’t understand how this was legal. Especially considering that 1992 wasn’t THAT long ago.

yup and so were the other whales and they had a history of pulling their trainers into the water and attacking them whereas tilikum simply learned their behaviors, I dont understand why he was even blamed for the sealand death

SeaWorld bastards... they should close these disgusting facilities. People that visit these theme parks are guilty of contributing to the cruelty of these magnificent creatures... and for what... so you can watch a whale and dolphin do tricks? Humans are disturbed.

I don't think we should blame the trainer or orca, we should blame the place and the person running it, the trainer what's only doing their job and she got mauled sick to the core witch I don't see people saying 'poor girl', I mean, it's alright to be sorry for the orca, but show some remorse for the girl as well 🤷‍♀️

He just meant for the mom and calf to nurse. If I recall, they couldn't move the mom and calf till he was weaned so they moved Tilikum first the other female (who was pregnant at the time so they wanted to move her before she gave birth and then they moved the mom and calf once the calf was a little bigger and not nursing as much)
