During lockdown, I decided to get my old sewing machine out and try sewing clothes again. I have had great success in the past with all manner of curtains, cushions and bags, but had failed miserably at making clothes. I bought your book Stretch, because I wanted to learn a bit about stretch garments, not having the courage to try just yet. My sister bought me your Love at first Stitch for Christmas. I really like the format and the way your personality shines through. I have used your book as a reference for a few patterns, with great success. Even when I made a pattern from a book which was not properly drafted-- I followed the instructions and once sewn, didn't fit my 7 year old daughter. I managed to remake it, using your pattern adjustment advice. I am going to try making your Megan dress soon if I have enough time, now I am off furlough. I was really excited to see you have videos on KZbin. I will definitely be watching more of your videos. Watching you is like chatting over tea with a friend and catching up on her day. Thank you.

Just brought you latest book and your black geo colourful fabric (a little treat for surviving 6 months at home with 3 children) after watching a KZbin video where you were wearing the dress. I became obsessed with the fabric and I’m normally a vintage style lover, I can’t wait to make and wear it. Thankyou Tilly. X

I basically taught myself to sew through lockdown here in Canada. I’ve gone from sewing a drawstring bag to making a jumpsuit. It is now fall 2021 though. I love this video as it gives me inspiration for my love for double gauze and other fabrics and patterns and styles that may suite me as I am short and curvy. I too love your last make the best!

I love the cute, bright colours. I've found lockdown has let me slide into a real wardrobe slump. I wear a suit to the office about half the time, but now I'm not in the office and don't turn the camera on for meetings so it's been old sweatshirts and plain tees. I think I need to make some fun, comfortable garments for fall, to lift my spirits!

Hello from Australia, this is my first time tuning in. All of your makes are just lovely. The pink & red fabric you used is my fav. I have two of your books but keep forgetting to use the patterns, I must change that! My sewing has been all over the place as well. I have put it down as to what is going on. Our state is in stages 3 & 4 lockdown at the moment. Day to day is so very different. 😊

I’ve really enjoyed this video and it’ll be interested in looking back on it. My life hasn’t changed from the point of view of work but my family have been at home so that’s been different which has prevented me from making more things. I have to say that your latest book has come in handy as most of the makes (or rather, all) in it are lounge wear style 😊
@daisychain32224 жыл бұрын
After watching your video I was inspired. I bought the Stevie pattern and found some material in my stash. Such a fun pattern and great instructions, easy to follow. The neckline is a bit high for my liking and I attempted to alter it. I had a bit of difficulty making the front neckline interfacing match. But managed to pull it off. Your neckline looks a bit different to me also. Is there a video to watch on alterations? Really appreciate your videos and website.
@TillyButtons4 жыл бұрын
I didn't change the shape of the neckline, but on the multicoloured version I cut a narrower neckline facing to avoid the loud print showing through the see-through fabric. We have lots of blog posts on fitting alterations (see tillyandthebuttons.com) but we don't have anything specific on altering a neckline. What you'd need to do is lay the facing over your new neckline and trace it off. Then adjust the lower edge of the facing so it's the width you want it to be. x

Lockdown helped me focus on sewing , or did the sewing help distract from lockdown ? All the online fabric shops I’ve bought from have been great. However I’ve struggled to buy buttons. It’s almost impossible to match them to fabric when looking at images on websites. Thread is less of a problem because many shops offer a thread matching service. Your video is inspiring. Even if you only have a few minutes a day, it's surprising how much sewing you can get done. Can you set aside an evening to cut out a project? Then five minutes to wind a bobbin and get everything ready. Another few minutes to sew your first seams, and you'll be away... :)

Love this video seeing what you have made. Question, notice on your Stevie dress you have abandoned the larger neck facing - is this part of the new add-on instruction or a personal choice. ? Love your colour and fabric choices. Thanks for sharing and wishing I was less of a prevarication and a speedier sewer.
@TillyButtons4 жыл бұрын
Ooh thanks for asking about that, Vicki - I meant to mention it in the video but forgot, oops. I cut a narrower facing for the multicoloured version of the dress as the white part of the fabric is quite see-through while the coloured parts are very bold so I didn't want them to show through. I sewed it on the same way as the regular facing. x
