Impressive precision and strength, looking forward to seeing the tilt and steering

As am I, I’m intrigued to know whether or not a tilting trike requires a capacity to balance...

Thanks a lot for the very informative videos. You explain everything with all the measurements and drawings - which others hide. keep going.

Very interesting manufacturing site! Thank you for the nice explanation about the tilting mechanism. I would try to make more use of existing material, for example for these length-adjustable steering rods. The left and right turning wire can also be found in a rigging tensioner of a sailing boat. Saw the rigging tensioner in half and glue these parts into the tierod.

Really neatly done. EC do some really good product.

Please make sure any gluing surface is cleaned before sanding it as you may sand grease or so into the surface. Cleaning them again after sanding makes sense as well though.

im curious if expanding foam would provide possible additional vibration absorption? im thinking the equivalent to bone marrow.. thanks for sharing your incredible work and educating like PBS. i hope to design something of my own someday. thank you sir truly appreciate you.

It probably would have some positive damping effect, but may adversely affect aerodynamics.

I'm working on a design for a leaning reverse E-Trike based somewhat on your design

Hello , i am waiting for your videos like kids waiting for Christmas. Those rods look cool . I think that i ve seen somewhere in the past that aluminium with carbon fiber gets galvanic corrosion and gets eaten up , i guess since i saw enough clearance the glue will be in between and will be no problem . (?) May i ask , i ve seen you are using m8 rod ends and i am thinking that if you use missalignement spacers the m8 will have to get smaller , what will be the bolt in the end ? I am thinking to use m12 in mine to have meat to reduce to m8 .(or m14 to m10)
@MetalMachineShop3 жыл бұрын
Thanks, I’ll try to get the next one out more quickly! I’m using home-made misalignment spacers which reduce the 10mm holes on larger rod ends to 8mm and the smaller 8mm to 5mm. The larger rod ends are fitted to the outer end of the tilting arms and take the vehicle’s weight. The smaller ones are for the steering and don’t take so much weight. I did think about galvanic corrosion; I don’t know how much of a problem it will be. The aluminium inserts with stainless steel rod ends could also be an issue, but time will tell. I decided not to worry about it!

@@MetalMachineShop Its ok , I just brought it up , I dont think it will be a problem either , keep up

I hear you on the glue thing😅 but I thought you looked much bigger than 60kg's, thats a complement by the way, love your build, it has captivated me all night, thankyou 😮

How much did the glue cost to stick metal to carbon fibre?
@MetalMachineShop7 ай бұрын
I think it was around £10. I got it from easycomposites.co.uk so you can find the latest price there.

Watch and enjoy all your videos. Are the parts limiting the max. tilting angle of your wheels to less than 35 degrees ? LOL
@MetalMachineShop3 жыл бұрын
30deg is about the limit. Much more than that and the steering linkages start to lock out. Glad you enjoyed the videos.

I have heard that you should never let aluminum touch carbon fiber as it can cause the carbon fiber to delaminate.
@MetalMachineShop3 жыл бұрын
There could conceivably be issues with electrical currents being generated between the aluminium and the carbon that cause this sort of problem?
@LeesChannel3 жыл бұрын
@@MetalMachineShop Actually I believe it's due to the reactivity of aluminum. A simple grommet or barrier of another material between the two is used for mitigation, I've seen steel washers used so I don't think it is due to conductivity.
@MetalMachineShop3 жыл бұрын
@@LeesChannel I’ll have to read into that, thanks!

@@MetalMachineShop I recommend having a deeper look into this problem, i.e. on the dark aero (UAV) KZbin channel you will find a video explaining different approaches to solving Problems with galvanic corrosion of aluminium honeycomb + carbon skin sandwichconstruction. In short: when there is no medium like water connected to both materials, you dont have to worry about it. Decoupling both materials via glue and making sure that there is no possibilty of water/mud/rain collecting on the areas in danger should lead to long lasting components. Excuse my french ;) and greetings from Germany

@@darkN3R075 hi, thank you very much for this reply (and excellent English!). Sounds like I don’t need to worry about it, but your point about designing to avoid water accumulation is well made. Particularly for wet, salted winter roads. Best wishes from UK!

I think those joints should probably support a tonne or so. I used the same tubes and glue for a bicycle frame and explained my crude testing system in this thread below. Based on my experiences I think your gluing procedure and fit up look excellent for a good joint. www.bikeforums.net/framebuilders/1211262-cf-hybrid-mma-glue-test.html
