Love this topic! I've lately adapted my style to more of a "Signature move set". Tomahawk Chop, Neck breaker (Rick Rude), Running Headbutt. I haven't decided on a super-duper finish quite yet. But the seminars you were doing in 2020 were amazingly helpful for my decision in this.

Thank you very much! Funny you mention the running headbutt. Have you ever watched Rayo de Jalisco? He has so many headbutt variants it’s nuts. Especially as he gets on in years, he keeps coming up with new headbutts. Some unique stuff!

I’m waiting till I get a job(to pay for wrestling school) to teach all the people with special needs as I have high functioning autism that I can make it as a wrestler bc I am wanting to teach them if I have special needs then I can prove them wrong and I am a huge fan of the Eugene gimmick even tho it’s a controversial gimmick but me and from what I heard people who have special needs connect with Eugene’s gimmick. So in all it really makes me glad I found this channel in 2021/2022 to teach me some of the ways

I have a traditional Chinese Martial arts back ground - Choy Li Fut Kung Fu and Shuai Jiao. So I mostly use moves from there. A lot of Shaui Jiao moves are very similar to jujitsu and real "folk" wrestling. So, for example gutwrench suplex, belly to belly and german suplex ALL have their versions in Shuai Jiao. I would say that the MAIN thing is to make sure you can do the move SAFELY for you and others. I can't do vertical suplex on guys bigger then me safely. But I can do SNAP suplex safe on everyone. I really would LOVE to use sheer drop brainbuster, like Kawada and Hashimoto and Liger. But I am not anywhere near their level, so I use Elevated Double Arm DDT (Cactus Jack style). I think that this should be a priority. Not "How cool do I look making the move", but "can I do it safely 1000 times out of thousand". So I use snap suplex, over the shoulder arm breaker, single arm DDT, reverse arm whip (Kote Gaeshi in Jujitsu), short arm clotheline (hello, Jake Roberts). Dragon screw, reverse dragon screw, shin breaker. 1 handed backbreaker, pendillum back breaker, belly to back, german with bridge. I tend to build my move set around safe, easy to execute moves which work either an arm or a leg. And I usually finish the match with either Nagata lock 3 (Double arm bar cross face), Rings of Saturn (work the arms) or Nagata Lock 1 (reverse Figure Four), or knee bar (works the legs). I eventually want to add Wrist Clutch Exploder to my move set, but at this point, I can't use it safely against bigger guys. I would love to use release Tiger suplex, but I am not skilled enough to do it. It is better to do a simple snap suplex or fireman carry crisply, quickly and precisely and LOOK GOOD doing it, and putting some snap and explosive power into it so your opponent gets sorta DRIVEN into the mat, so it is safe and look good. Than dumping a dude on his head with release german and hurting him. Or hitting a vertical suplex which looks like crap. We all have to go to work next day:). For the corner turnbuckle move I use iconoclasm. Very safe and I can control my opponent all the way down, pretty much helping him to do a forward flip. Make it look good, make it look snappy, make it look fast, make it look REAL, but keep it safe. I absolutely assure you that when you do a monkey flip, continue to roll through, and end up in a mount position, then do a cross wrist choke (Lapel choke but without lapel, looks good), grab opponent arm as he tries to fight you off and transition into a cross arm breaker, crowd will love it. Just do it in one smooth combo motion, make it crisp and snappy. K.I.S.S. Keep it simple, Stupid. Thats what our instructor ALWAYS tells us. "You can't do a drop kick? okay, can you do a jumping side kick? DO IT. You can't do 450 splash or moonsault - DO NOT DO IT. You can make an Elbow drop work. You can do moonsault but keep landing with your knees on another guys face? (I ate one of those few weeks ago, even with mouthguard I got busted up so bad, from nose and mouth they had to stop the match) DO NOT DO IT. Do a Froggie, but do it crisp, quickly and precisely. KEEP IT SIMPLE, KEEP IT FAST, KEEP IT SNAPPY, KEEP IT PRECISE. KEEP IT SAFE. Guys who have wrestling back ground can easily use the real freestyle wrestling takedowns on their opponents. It will look real, crisp and be safe.

Hey there Mike! Been watching your videos and I have a question. How does one, or you personally get over being nervous about performing in front of a crowd for the first time? I’m having my wrestling debut soon and I’m a bit nervous but also excited, thank you for all you do!!
@TilWeMakeIt2 жыл бұрын
I pondered whether or not I have enough material to do a whole video on this, and presently, I do not. So: for me, I frame putting on my gear as a bit of a ritual. I am not just "donning" the character, I am inhabiting it. The character is not a costume to be put on, or taken off. It is brought to life. The fictional character can do things, withstand things, perform things that the ordinary person never could. And so I must inhabit that character fully, so that nervousness isn't even a factor. It's why I think no wrestler should ever use their real name. Separate the person from the character they inhabit in a way that is easy to articulate. It took me time to correlate the process of putting on my gear with that hard shift of mindset, but once I really "got" it, everything became so much easier. I hope that is of some help.

Ive been building a moveset around my character quite a bit, mostly using cruiserweight moves(frog splash, 619, springboard clothesline) while also having the sister abigail as a finisher as its my nicest looking move and fits with my character as a sinister heel. Would you consider these to be conflicting too much?

I’ve been trying to come up with a unique fusion of a high flying agile wrestler (like lucha) and a brute force big guy (like kane) I’m 6’2 and 170 (tryna get to 200) and I’m more lean than bulky so I wanna have a nice move set that compliments both aspects. So audiences are like “holy shit this guy is big and fast you can’t stop him with speed or brute force” Also to add on my character is based off Ed Gein, the cannibal. I wanna have the move set be pretty primal and aggressive or anything fitting to a crazy cannibal that would do anything to get a kill. Any ideas from you guys?

The Cobra Clutch is a neck submission. So you want to target the head and neck with the majority of your offense.
