Really excellent interview! I happened to catch them at Gathering of the Tribes in SF at the Shoreline Amphitheatre, I knew nothing about them, and they were fantastic and they won the crowd over at this show. A number of the other bands on that eclectic bill were great too including Public Enemy, Iggy Pop, Queen Latifa, and the Cramps! Cheers!!!

Correction: Iggy Pop has been around since the later 60's (not the 70's) when he founded the Stooges.

I was a 14 year old rude boy (The Specials, Madness...) when Come on Eileen was a hit. At the time there were lots of other ska/rude boys around, but also lots of heavy metal fans (ACDC especially), but in the disco when the "diddley diddley" of Eileen came on, we would all dance, and when the drum bit sped up the place would be bouncing, happy days...Ps: I'd never consider Dexy's get up as traditional Irish.

It was northern soul dexys sound. Rowland did write about his Irish roots a lot but no I'd call them soul with a late 70s early 80s sound. Madness, Specials and Dexys records all still sound great now.

@@Humanpunk77 yeah, maybe I should have phrased my comment better. I'm not saying that Dexy's were ska. It was more a case that it reminded me of the time 1980/81.

Noel Nah it's grand I just meant from the way the lad interviewing said they were punk. I just liked your comment cos it was about music I love still. Yeah into all the two tone and stuff around them eras all good sounds. The Specials comeback gigs were great. The discos back then even here in Ireland was punk and ska whatever Cure indie good tunes. Gonna see Madness with Squeeze in a few weeks.

This is a channel promoting their work, why would u thank them for "taking time" what else are they doing? They want fools r their new tunes. Plus all the same bands get mentioned over n over. Some great bands mentioned, although searching for the young soul rebels would be my Dexys choice. It's flawless in my opinion. Iggy pop and the stooges very important too and joy division.
