Do you mean Anton Furst's set design that he won the Academy Award for in 1989? Anton's sketches and design are available on YT.

This is the Gotham City I want to return to in a new Batman movie. Always loved the gothic, dark, nightmarish vibes from the visuals. It's so iconic and haunting. Love it! Thanks to Tim Burton and the set designers Peter Young, Anton Furst.

I love this Gotham City best because, it's like an endless city unlike the rest that are just New York/Chicago clones. This Gotham is like it was built after some global cataclysm with stilts, tresses, cantilevers, arches, pipes and bridges holding it all together. Very strange city but, has a very special place in my heart.

My favourite look of Gotham City. It has that dark, dirty, metropolis look and even at some points having the look of architecture from the 1930s. It is probably the best design for any Batman film and although, murky and dark, it stimming looks futuristic (e.g. dirty sci-fi).
@adriboy013 жыл бұрын
Gotham architecture is unique even in comics. I think Nolanverse and the DCEU didn't depict the city as well as Burton did, probably because they wanted to make it look like another metropolitan city like New York or Chicago or smthn.

My ideal Gotham city would be sorta like this. Gothic with hints of places like the narrows from Nolan’s trilogy with some aspects of Joel Shoemockers Gotham

I never really felt like Nolan captured the vibe of Gotham City. His depiction just felt like a generic American metropolis. Burton, and the animated show - really captured that putrid gloomy elegance, and sense of danger that lurks in Gotham.

@@armorpro573 ive read a lot people opionion on this topic and one dude on reddit caught my attention... Nolan missed a lot with Batman, he tried to be realistic and put him outside from his fantasy world to modern day world...which he failed at start...in modern day world man walking down in costume and cowl and beating up thugs makes no sense, sky mask and flack jacket would be just effective. Even his existance of him as vigalante whos true identity is unknown is unrealistic. But if you create a world where silly, weird and total nonsensical somehow works...then you can have Batman, catwoman, penguin, joker feel like they are part of fabric...Burton this this perfectly, Nolan missed by a mile.

Anton Furst's Gotham from 1989 was very different, more European than version from Batman Returns. Maybe due to the fact, that he was Englishman. However fans can explain these differences due to the presentation of different city areas. Both slightly different cityscapes are stunning.

This is in many ways how Gotham City is supposed to look, it was always planned as a rather gothic aesthetic city. perfect for the dark knight, though Burton's Gotham is by far overstated and a extreme gothic City and is a city that was built out of control effectively, the Burton films remain the best Batman movies to date

This looks incredible, I've never watched this movie before but i'm a big fan of batman, especially the games like Arkham knight which introduced us to freeroaming in gotham city, I thought that looked good until I saw this. my jaw dropped and now i really want to watch the 1989 Batman movie! the 1989 batmobile design has also become my favourite, it looks aggressive built for speed and not all techy. I also watched dark knight trilogy and the city in that was boring, it was just an average United States city

When you compare it to other film adaptations, like the traveling Carnival parade in Joel Schumacher's films; the common American metropolis, like Chicago or New York, in Christopher Nolan's films, the nothingness of Zack Snyder's films; this expressionist gothic city in Tim Burton's films has been, to this day, the best Gotham City ever made in live-action.

Burton made a grave mistake in changing the set, the style and the scenery of this Gotham in Returns. Gotham is a different city, too clean and fairytale-like.
@WERV200319 күн бұрын
Maybe it's because it's Christmas in Returns? I don't know, it looks a little different (Maybe because they had a much bigger budget for Returns), but you can see a consistency between 89 and Returns, it was in Batman Forever when Warner took out Tim Burton that there was a drastic change that no one believes anymore that they were from the same universe.
