Interesting trivia: At one point, Tim Burton considered Arnold Schwarzenegger for the role of Betelgeuse. However, The Geffen Company felt that due to Schwarzenegger's reputation at the time as an action star, people wouldn't take it seriously. But Burton approached Schwarzenegger anyway. He turned it down, as he was busy shooting The Running Man (1987).

@@milesmayhem5440 yes he would because before Tim Burton’s version of Batman was green lit Warner bros wanted bill Murray to be Batman similar to how Adam west did it
@DoctorFurioso3 жыл бұрын
@@elijahstark3663 That's because Ivan Reitman (Ghostbusters, Stripes) was in charge so it probably would have been awesome, if weird. But, '80s Batman was already extremely dark. Those were the Frank Miller and Alan Moore years, so it's nonsense to say Burton had anything to do with changing the mood. If anything, his film was a step back from what has happening in print.

@masterofallgoons3 жыл бұрын
Mars Attacks was his blank check movie, it was all him. Also it's a completely fun and absurd parody.
@WhateverHappenedToFun3 жыл бұрын
@@masterofallgoons As far as I am concerned 'Mars Attacks' (like 'Alice In Wonderland') was a great project but only on paper. For sure they were somethin' that could fit it him but the final product is pretty disheartening. The reason behind this disaster is almost always the same: the screenplay. It wasn't wrote by Burton but by Jonathan Gems that never wrote a masterpiece and this movie ain't an exception. It was so sad to see such extraordinary director with such extraordinary cast in such disappointing movie. There's a fine line between bein' a parody of '50s movies and bein' a bad movie inspired by the '50s movies and this movie, from my point of view, went too far. In 'Mars Attacks' there's too much '90s cynism and disillusion so I can't find it fun. And, as I wrote in the thesis about him, it went against Burton first commandament: "Never, ever, use C.G.I."
@masterofallgoons3 жыл бұрын
@@WhateverHappenedToFun - I can't agree.. I think the chaotic insanity is the fun of it.. It's filled with great performances and captures the slapped together spirit of the 50s sci-fi movies that he made a loving homage to in his previous film Ed Wood (the person I wrote a thesis about) which is a legit masterwork, but Mars Attacks is a fun throwback.. it's dumb and silly and chaotic, and that's the entire point. By the way it was also written in part by Scott Alexander and Larry Karazewski who wrote Ed Wood and a number of other excellent films... just for the record. Also, Sweeney Todd is great and so is Frankenweenie Also also, Burton never said he'd never use CGI. I love practical effects but he used even a small digital effect as early as Batman Returns, and there's actually quite a bit of CGI in Sleepy Hollow.. it's just blended well with the practical
