Great first episode! Props to Charlemagne for being an excellent first guest. I honestly believe this is the best way to introduce people to foods that scare them. Lull them in first with the obvious hits so they are open to new ideas.

Growing up in a Vietnamese house hold I also ate balut. I honestly never knew if was considered different or strange until I saw it on fear factor. I thought I everybody ate it lol 😂

I've tried it here in Toronto and it doesn't taste bad at all it just taste like a hard boiled egg but the texture is hard. It tastes better than it looks. If you like the taste of hard boiled eggs (I don't) then you'll like balut

I was a kid when I ate balut the first time too and my mom never made a big deal out of it or explained it to me, so I ate it heartily. When it was my first time visiting the philippines at the age of 14, I bought balut from a street vendor and I saw my cousin's disgust at watching me eat it was when I first learned about what balut really was LOL

I love that they let Chef Nicole introduce her food and story before getting to it. Too often ethnic food like this is exoticized and made fun of without the context.
