Tim, I had a trail cam in one of our state parks (FL) and learned that the cams are not allowed. I had spotted others off the regular paths so figured it was okay. Upon further inquiry with a ranger I learned there is a way for citizens to place cams within state parks. It involves filing a request form with the park superintendent. I was told that the request must include where the cam will be, and what you hope to gain by the placement (i.e. what biological significance your data may have in the research of animals, etc.). Further, I was told that you had to be willing to share your captures with the park service. I never confirmed any of this with the superintendent, nor did I follow up with online verification. Thought maybe this info would be helpful in the event there’s a similar “rule” for the Strand that would allow you to keep placing trail cams. Your captures certainly offer biological significance to that ecosystem. Best regards, and thanks for sharing.

Or maybe the citizens in the area need to create a ruckus so the Park Service becomes more transparent or rescinds the restrictions. The Park Service is part of our government and should damn well be accountable to US.
@slyflea
@slyflea 2 жыл бұрын
That might work, Team Crooks, but before going the ruckus route I’d look into the permission process. It may be a breeze to get permission. Perhaps even easier than getting a driver license.

We looked forward to your videos because we can never go there ourselves. Also your videos are useful to Fish n Game so they know what's out there n how it's doing. I'm a native Floridian lived there till age 36 never saw a black bear there until I saw your videos. What a shame Tim, please find some other allowable sites. As you say, good luck! I've been a subscriber of your channel for a few months now. My thought is, maybe they don't want everyone to know how many vulnerable animals there are. Not everyone is seeking wildlife for just beauty. Awesome video though, Tim. I have 5 trailcams on my land here in the Virgin Islands and, believe or not, all were set-up and are maintained and monitored by the US National Park Service. I gave them permission so they can monitor wild feral pigs, and I also get an instant notice via email when something triggers the cam.. You've a great channel.

Unfortunately, neither have any natural predators, they are not native species🤨Thanks again and be well 🤙

Thank you for sharing this excellent footage. What you are doing is very important to share & truly appreciated. There are clearly other reasons for those signs, that are guaranteed - not - for the public's interest (& it is likely the signs are not even "legal' to post... If a sign, then, saying "trail cameras at your own risk if damaged or stolen, no sharing peoples' faces). If anything, the helpful pros outweigh any cons. I am grateful a non-gov. controlled cam is in there! The government should be more concerned about getting the alleged rampant python issue under control to protect the balance of the wildlife there than this. Heck, the trail cams can possibly help with that too. Regardless, keep following your intuition & heart, in tune with your surroundings for your protection, as you enter into some of these wild places out there). Anyway, it's a "wildlife camera", not a trail camera.🌞😉 Best wishes!

Tim Harrell, I really enjoy watching your videos, and especially the ones shown in the Fakahatchee Strand Preserve. Is there anyone we can write to help with trail cams on the Preserve? Perhaps Florida Wildlife Management. Perhaps they have an idea or solution that can make all of us happy that enjoy your videos. I see no harm to the animals by using the Trail Cameras. Plus, the cameras help with important information regarding these local species. I will be glad to write to whomever (State Park Service, etc.) to give my opinion for your trail cameras. Kind Regards, Dennis

Florida Parks should understand that its action means the 99.9% of people who will never be able to visit Fakahatchee will never see what's there. Only people who are familiar with wildlife and our natural resources are passionate about protecting them. Surely they have the ability to institute a permit system-with limited numbers and preference to those with a long history in the park.

Why not check with the local State Game Biologist. I'm sure he knows a camera is a great way to get an idea of the game population. Plus you can do it for them , free of charge. The (24:54 ) mark is what I love to listen to out in a swamp laying in my Jungle Hammock. If I don't hear some Owls on a trip I consider it a failure , so far I haven't had any failures.

WITH ALL DUE RESPECT Tim, You can't take this "unjust" ban on trail cams laying down. Furthermore, I advise you to remove all your trail cameras from state park property. You MUST petition your objection with The Office of State Parks Director Hatcher & The Office of Governor DeSantis. To make more of an impact, You SHOULD organize others in Florida & nationally who set-out trail cams. Browning & other trail cam manufacturers may be willing to help you; by contacting their trail cam customers; putting them in-touch with you. I assure you the parks foundation cannot simply enact an ordinance. There are legal procedures that MUST take place. As well as environmental impact studies, etc; showing a need to ban trail cameras. Especially if Florida State Parks Foundation receives "ANY" funds, grants, etc. from the federal government; which they certainly do. If you & others cannot personally get the foundation to remove this unjust ban, hire a lawyer. There are a wealth of good lawyers in Florida who'd love to fight for your rights. At that point, your lawyer should contact the news media; TV, radio & news papers. But a "good" lawyer knows this. Best regards, Ben

@robert wilson Excellent question. The older I grow, the more Libertarian I become. How is it that the government (the peoples’ representatives?) may put cameras wherever they want, but they want to limit the People on where WE may put cameras? Is there an expectation of privacy in National Parks? Certainly trail cameras are not intrusive. I would really like an answer to this. I’m going to call my Representatives.

I do not get why a camera that is off the trams where 99% of people that visit the park will never go is an issue. If the amount of cameras is the issue then create a permit system with a limit for each people and a total limit of people that can set up cameras on a monthly basis. Better yet create a permit fee so they can also make some money out of it and another stream to support the parks. The state parks and the national parks unfortunately are full of lazy bureaucrats that think it is easy just to ban things instead of creating a system that works for everyone. They think they own the land and forget that our taxes and or entrance fees are the stuff that pays for the parks. Trail cameras are also a great resource for biologists and even the park so they know the amount of animals that are around, how healthy they are etc. If I remember correctly it was a trail camera that revealed that several panthers had developed feline leukomyelopathy and it was a trail camera that revealed that bobcats were preying on Burmese python nests ? Why not use this kind of technology to improve the knowledge about the animals and the environment on the parks? At this rate in a few years the only way to setup a trail camera legally is going to be knowing someone that owns forested land and asking permission to set the camera on their private property. its a real shame

maybe the game wardens will give you special permission as you are a good steward of the nature and you do not harass or endanger wildlife but protect it and also educate others on the importance of maintaining these precious resources..so you would think they would like to see what the camera captures etc gives them a good report of how the animals are doing , what animals are there, and approx numbers etc. especially if you agree to share them to the game warden... I hope they will be agreeable, would hate for you to no longer do such videos they are so amazing to watch .. it's worth a shot asking ~ GOOD LUCK!
