I still consider Virgins to be The Superior Album™ but In The Air is the single best sequence in Tim's discography.

The third part in the suite is absolutely soul tearing, when that hauntingly beautiful organ sample starts...

I think Ravedeath will prove to be Tim's greatest album.

while everybody loves part 3, I find 1 and 2 to be the most amazing.

Thank you for this! I was getting a bit suspicious about the "modern classic" tag and all the craving for "polite" ambient, when these three tracks brought me back to real music. The Ambient 4 sort of thing. Nice without being "nice"!

I always thought there was some sort of a choir voice in part III, but it seems to be a trick played by huge reverb stacked on top of a piano. It's so strange and beautiful how instruments can be twisted and made to sound like other things. (It also makes it feel like a hint regarding Love Streams, 5 years prior.)

@dj quote from Maynard James Keenan on "Pushit" on Tool's "Salival" :) I'm a big fan of both Tool and Tim, there is a space where both sounds meet. it's how Tim said in one of the interviews about playing with ISIS, that they share a similar aesthetic... and it's damn right. Tim makes something remarkable with sound, being able to convey so many contrasting emotions in such doses that it never fails to give the listener goosebumps and summon waves of shivers... incredible artist.

If you ask me, I'd say that the raw beauty of his stlye, why I like his music. I mean, this stuff is not perfect, contained overdrived parts few times, lots of hiss, distions... but it's still beautiful. Just like life. In life as I see, there is no 100% pure beautiful thing. There is always some dust, some defected or cracked part... Just like his in his musical style... Whoever controls the dust, controls the galaxy! He made it.

I dismissed instrumental ambient for lack of a better term years ago and then happened to stumble upon Hecker's music. I had no idea it could sound so soulful, passionate and human. Can someone tell me another artist to go to from here?
@lofy12633 жыл бұрын
Hi. I know it's been like 10 years but I suggest Oneohtrix Point Never. And if you want them, here are some ambient album suggestions. Oneohtrix Point Never - Replica is an uncanny mix of barely human sounding music, and highly intimate sonic moments, sampling commercials and utilizing breathy choir mellotrons to create a haunting experience. 2 8 1 4 - Birth of a New Day is a beautiful, melancholic and dreamy soundscape of a city right before the crack of dawn. Akira Yamaoka - Silent Hill 2 OST, though a soundtrack, still functions very similarly to Hecker's music. They both indulge in a foggy aesthetic, with a very isolating, yet living and breathing feeling to it all. In addition to dark ambient, the album also draws upon indie rock and hip hop.
