Tim Hicks Leaning Delta Trike HPV

Tim Hicks of Barrie, Ontario, Canada designed and built a leaning delta tricycle called the "Black Max". Here he races it and explains details of its design to onlookers at the HPRA races for HPVs (Human Powered Vehicles) in Indianapolis, Indiana on April 25-26, 2009. Tim won the trike race at this event. His innovative trike design is one of the best designs seen in years.

All fixed trikes have cornering problems. The TTW (Tilting Three Wheel) design has great potential because of stability and cornering. The issue is the complexity of the tilting/steering mechanism. Tim's design goes a long way to a simplified solution. It would be interesting if the design can be converted to a 2+1 configuration.

Tim, post more details. I t looks like you have a tilting lock. The rider needs to steer and to control the tilt at the same time?

Great job! it always puzzled me why people don't do leaning trikes. I trike don't lean it breaks or turns over, simple as that. Just watch "the berserker tricycle" to understand what i mean...

I'd like to build a full suspension electric cargo trike using your design. Freeway capable and sporty. Enough room for 2 people or 6 feet by two of cargo weighing 3 to 400 pounds with a carrying capacity of 400 pounds including riders. Love the locking mechanism. I'd build a motorcycle to do this but enclosing a two wheel vehicle is dangerous. Much easier to enclose a trike. I would build a teardrop faring around the bike.
