As a former Army attack helicopter pilot and combat veteran, I have lost friends in the service...I will never live on my knees or apologize for the tears I have shed...neither should you. Thank you for your reaction...

If a song can bring a smile to your face or a tear to your eyes, then the writer and singer have done their job to leave a lasting memory in your soul you will always remember. Great song and video.

They DESERVE our tears....my husband served in the Military for 20 years and thankfully came home (although he passed away 3 weeks ago, taking both my heart and soul with him. We were married 48 years, although he was only 69 when he left me). If you want to watch a real life film about our Military coming home watch the movie "Taking Chance" starring Kevin Bacon. You'll learn a lot about Honoring our Military. To those that have served as well as those now serving : Thank you for your sacrifices....

Thank you for your reaction and comments. From someone that wrote a letter like this the first time I was deployed during the first Gulf War and lucky enough to not have to send this letter to my loved ones, too many did not get as lucky and I still morn every Solider (friend and foe) that didn't come home. Hope all remember the ultimate sacrifice that those gave for all of us with all the best for the greater good of everyone , though we don't want to die, No matter what I (we soldiers) believe every Human is worth the ultimate sacrifice.

The hardest thing I have ever done is hand the folded flag to a young grieving widow and say "On behalf of the President of the United States, the United States Army and a grateful Nation, please accept this flag as a symbol of our appreciation for your loved one's honorable and faithful service". You cannot show any emotion. This Ranger had a hard time not shedding a tear when I presented the flag and said the words to one young pregnant woman. Company H 75th Infantry (Ranger). Ranger Class 5-70.

Thank you for your kind words but don't think less of yourself for not taking that path. I know for certain that you could but only if that was your calling. We need everyone to partake in every aspect of what this world need to survive. So I pray your life ambitions come to you.

I plan on being buried in the same National Cemetery as my Father. He was a WWII fighter pilot over Germany.

We tend to forget that families suffer from wars, probably more: kzbin.info/www/bejne/hXqQkKp3jZanjJo I lost my best friend in Vietnam, years later I got the privilege of telling his daughter, that he had never even saw, stories about her dad in high school. Things about his early life that she would never have known.

what an incredibly nice and dignified way you respect your military. Also giving thought today to those who are defending their country in Ukraine right now. Greetings from Sweden

you mentioned walking out the door knowing that you may never return, I know what that is like, i made 5 western Pacific deployments, and 2 Combat deployments, so i done exactly what you described, and i can tell you, when you hug your family for the last time in months and possibly ever, it is hard, and never gets easier.
