A hauntingly beautiful masterpiece done with reverence and respect for the fallen by Home Free. Thanks for your reaction and hoping things improve in Australia, the USA and here in Canada too. I second the request for you to react to their cover (I think it's an upgrade) of The Horses feat. Travis Collins and Amy Sheppard; filmed in Australia this past Spring. Subbed so I won't miss it!

Sometimes, an Acapella performance - especially with five voices from high tenor to basso profundo - can bring out the poetry in lyrics that a traditional performance with instruments can't. Helplessly Hoping is that way, also.

Home Free treated this presentation with a high degree of respect, it was very sobering and intentionally dwelling on those who have given all. Also, pointing out the desire for PEACE not war as those fighting are put into harm’s way by those who are making the decisions that take the lives others. Their video was well done, simple but very purposeful in the reflection of those who gave all and reflecting on those still serving. Thank You Home Free!!! ❣ Thank you for reacting to this cover by Home Free. 💟

One of my favorites of theirs. Loved Tim’s lows. Tim and Chance looked ghost like in the windows. Loved the echoes. I think that line meant the soldier was not abandoned in the field as he was dying. At least that’s what I think it meant. Our country is a mess too. Our government can’t seem to solve any problem and their answer is to throw money at any problem. We have debts we can’t pay. Best of luck in Australia. Have you heard their version of the Horses with Travis Collins and Amy Shepard? It’s really good. 😍

I have always been a fan of this song by Dire Straits but think Home Free did an excellent version of this song. Tim's natural breathy bass was awesome along with Chance's smooth baritone & loved it when all the guys were doing 5 part harmonies. Who would believe humming could sound so good. They gave it a very solemn feeling. I love that they don't overproduce their songs. These guys are my favorite a cappella group out there.

Home Free's rendition of this song is so hauntingly beautiful - there is no beatboxing in it. The singing and harmonies are simply gorgeous. Tim, Austin & friends do fund raising for at-risk veterans (parts of these are available on y/t and on Austin's wife's channel "Beauty and the Bass" - an in the fish).

The band was given permission to use this beautiful cover by the Finnish a capella group who developed it (whose name I'm ashamed to admit escapes me). I know people like Tim but for me Chance is the one who makes me want to cry. As well as his extraordinary voice, there is always a quality of thought in his singing, which makes it hit home even more. Something magical happens every time Adam stops beatboxing and Tim stops being the rhythm section - the 5-part harmony section sounds like a band of angels come to take these poor men home. You probably know that the original song was written in response to the Malvinas War, possibly the most pointless war ever fought, for control of some rocks in the Atlantic and to exploit the stupid patriotism in the face of a war, that would boost the government's poll ratings. It was driven by disgust at the triumphalism of Margaret Thatcher when so many young men had died. Most of the Argentinian dead were teenage draftees.

Home Free always pays appropriate respect in their covers--especially to the content! Their talent is amazing--and I LOVE their 5-part harmony❣️🎼🥰🎶❤️ Such a genius touch to show the silhouette of the fellas in front of the window. I know some see it as a "ghost"y reference but it strikes me as a reflection of the POW/MIA flag. We'll never know just how many of those met the same fate as the soldier of this song. 😥

I LOVE the original version of this by Dire Straits & it took a couple of listens of this for me to not just appreciate the beauty in HF’s version but to absolutely put it up there with the original. I was raised on Dire Straits so I think that’s what took me the few listens to gel with this one but it’s one of my favourites now. Chance just brings depth & warmth to the haunting background & deep notes & echoes. As always HF you take it to a whole new level of incredible! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Great, honest reaction.

Home Free released this song just a few days before the US Veterans Day holiday. (Observed in Europe as Armistice Day, Nov 11.) HF wrote that they sang this song in response to the divisions we in the States are experiencing. Good luck on your referendum.

Masterpiece is a good description. I believe that the song is about a dying soldier and how his ‘brothers in arms’ did not desert him in his final hours. The words bring beautiful images of soldiers from all walks of life, uniting as if blood brothers.

I always liked the Dire Straits version, but I only got really interested in this song through Home Free. (Although I have to be honest I think Dire Straits guitar playing is phenomenal) Yes, this version of Home Free will send shivers through your entire body! This is so emotional. Beautifully sung by Tim and Chance, but the background and harmony of Adam, Rob and Austin is also so beautiful. It looks like a choir or actually a kind of church organ sounds. And the whole setting of the video is just amazing. Simple but with so many details that makes it so profound
