I saw Tim live last night and he played The Fence. He got to the "your dogs have a bigger carbon footprint than a 4 wheel drive" part and he suddenly stopped, looked at the audience and said "I need to tell you something about these lyrics." Apparently it used to be "your dog has a bigger carbon footprint than a 4 wheel drive," but his friend questioned it saying "Tim, are you sure you didn't get that from the Daily Mail?" and Tim was like "wait...now I need to check...FUCK it's from the Daily Mail." Then he did the maths on it and it didn't work, so his answer was to change it to "your dogs" - and he explained that they're very big dogs and pointed out he doesn't say exactly how many and that the 4 wheel drive is a more environmentally friendly one. Tim is anything but someone who doesn't like to be factually accurate 😆. edit: It was also the best show I've ever been to. Despite playing his more "unfunny" songs (mostly songs from his musicals, album and earlier career) he had the whole audience laughing between every song, and everything he played was better than any recording I've seen of him. Highly recommend :). Far too talented and intelligent for an actual human being.

I saw him last week, same show, utterly brilliant. He kept playing effortlessly while he explained the dogs line (i think, might have been another song??) so i guess its now the explanation been incorporated into the song lmao

The best part was the ending though. Midway through the show he was talking about how during covid he was stuck in Perth (where he grew up) without a piano to practice on. He called up his old school, and they let him use the piano in the chapel. As he was playing through his songs, he realised that the majority of church experience is about acoustics and communal singing. Then for the last song of his show he played Hallelujah by Leonard Cohen with all the lights in the theatre switched off so he couldn't even see what he was doing. He encouraged everyone to sing along for the chorus. It was really surreal just hearing his voice and the piano emanating from the dark stage, and a couple of thousand strangers singing along. Then as soon as he had finished and everyone was feeling almost holy and spiritual we just hear this 'church, motherfuckersssss!" cut through the darkness from the direction of the stage. Then the lights flicked back on revealing Tim sitting there looking rather smug. Point clearly demonstrated 🤣.
