Great insight on how to not rush ahead of the snare. Stay in Time. Don't step on the singer. Tone, Taste and Technique. Tim really breaks down his 'method' just using a chord chart. Thanks a lot for this one.

This is brilliant for me! I'm a bass player, but the band I'm working in at the moment needs a more melodic bass playing than normal and this vid with the explination is gold dust! Always rely on Mr Pierce to be uber melodic!

Thank You Tim for sharing your knowledge with us less talented mortals, you make it look so simple. All the years before KZbin it was all done by listening to the records, and playing it over and over, and over, lifting the needle up hoping you don't scratch the record. The first real lick I learned was from Mike Bloomfield East meets West, it took me hours to figure it out, but I did, and you know what, after that it just got easier. But you have gone so much farther, to see how the studio does it, but your timing and intuitive skills are just unreal, you just seem to know where to go and whats going to fit. I'm a real fan, at 65 yrs old.

I think the quote that sums these videos up for me is 'in the pocket'. He is the pocket master.. Its scary how he comes up with stuff on the fly thats just spot on for the feel and time of the song. He's really aware of light and shade spots and question and answer ideas with lead guitar and vocal melody that colour the song. Really enjoyed these vids. Thanks!

I am a big fan of pete Thorn and so when I watched the spot on youtube where you partnered with pete I said " wow this Tim- guy is amazing ! Now i'm not a guitarist but I have always liked guitar. I got interested in synths 20 yrs ago and would jam with my college buddy mike who is a guitarist. He texted me and said you have got to check out this guy Tim Pierce! So when I did I saw you were the "other" half of the Thorn/pierce duo!!! coincidence and both amazing!!!! I loved seeing your studio set-up and would also love to add an eventide eclipse for effecting my synths do like the effects from strymon I wish threy (strymon) made a rack mount that incorporated their Timeline , big sky,mobius and dig duo in one chassis that would be awesome for both guitar and synth. anyway your such a gifted musician . Thanks so much for sharing your info and insight into recording and guitars

So much to learn from this on many levels. You're right Papastache... I think 'perfectly pocketed' or 'perfectly packaged' sums up what Tim has done with this track. I guess my only concern would be where to draw the line between putting out the original recording - warts and all - and something that is so 'perfect' that has smoothed things too far. Nothing against Tim, I think he's wonderful... but I do believe that we're in danger of being X-Factored and Pro-Tool'd to death, and somehow I think we need to reel things back in.

Tim and Lukather have the talent to sit, listen, play, and it works. I am still stunned at how many guitar plays dont get Steve Lukather or a Tim Pierce....you want a hit record, hire Luke! It is simply the talent to know what to play and not to play for each song. that is a rare talent and why so few make most of the music. enter the band TOTO and the boys that plays on about 10k records! What he says about Eric Johnson is really important...his style is so individual he cannot not be Eric, where Luke and Tim can be 100 different players so the artist gets the credit and not overshadowed..."Beat It" hired Eddie to be Eddie and it worked on ONE song...not an album, but Luke played guitar and bass on that track and nobody knew it.
@brendanmoir1005 жыл бұрын
