Not always. I worked with a dude who said he was a Navy "EMT". I said, "So you were a corpsman?". He said, "No, an EMT". I asked what ship he was on and he said the Roosevelt. I asked which one. He said the frigate. Last I checked the two ships that have Roosevelt in their names are a carrier and a destroyer. He then said he couldn't remember what his homeport was. I guess there's some places I've lived that I'd like to forget as well. I asked if he realized I recently retired from the Navy and I knew he was full of shit but he insisted he wasn't lying.

My piece of crap nephew swears he's a Marine. I served twenty years in the army and know that you have to complete basic to be a marine. He actually was at the reception station for three days, cried for mama and was sent home. I saw a Marine sticker on his car and called him out. I told him it was a felony to steal Valor. Since he's a sex offender and thinks that since he's not on parole any more he doesn't have to tell any one of his location. He's always has an excuse for his discharge but refuses to show his DD Form 214, Or his supposedly honorable discharge. What a poor excuse of a creep. I will always call out stolen Valor. Not just for me but for anyone who served.

As a civilian who grew up in a military family I was told by everyone who served in my family if they caught me wearing rank or any awards on my gear they would kick my ass. I did a lot of Airsoft in my past so I have gear galore but the only thing I use it my brothers old name tapes and American flags patches. When people ask me what or why I politely inform them that am not former or active. But just love my cammie pants. It’s better to wear just the pants and don’t try to do anything stupid.

I am NOT a veteran!! During my traffic detail for the 2021 Veterans Day Parade in the City of Butler PA, I encountered the dumbest stolen valor. A younger male wearing digital camo fatigues claimed he was in Vietnam. (Red Flag #1: Camo was not introduced until the 1980's) I asked him where his combat zone was. He said "Omaha Beach" (Red Flag #2: Omaha Beach was part of the D-Day invasion 06Jun.,'44) I called him on everything, he became a whiny punk. FYI My grandaddy was a POW in the Forgotten War (Korea)

Tbh never cared much about stolen valor or whatever. I think they get away with it due to the military worship in the US. So i never really cared too much. My grandpa and his dad went into the military and didn't use their license plate and etc as they had the same thought. Its a lot of show boating. And i madly respect them for that.

I know stolen valor is a terrible thing ,but really I do think some people just overreact. A lot of these stolen valor cases are people with mental disabilities or homeless people who only have military attire for something to wear. It's cool to call him out or whatever ,but violently beating the shit out of him is just absurd. There's no honor or respect for doing such. Also in some states for stolen valor to be illegal is for someone to gain a benefit by claiming to be a member of the military.

My problem is service members or veterans walking up to complete strangers and attempting to force them to take off the uniform.
