he hits a shaky Eb1 right afterwards. not a note of particular quality but the fact that its so candid makes it impressive

Seen this one before...a WEALTH of info. I myself am not a singer (let alone a bass or basso profundo), but it's an academic interest of mine nonetheless, and I had the privilege of speaking with Tim once myself after a Gold City concert back in 2011. Btw, here's what some of the low notes are here in case anyone was curious: 1:30 - B1, 1:56-2:08 - F#1 on the word "down", several times, 6:18 - Two quick slides from E2-Ab1 (spoken) Funny thing is, Tim said "it's not volume that you're looking for" towards the beginning (since the mic provides most of that), but he darn sure has volume! That B1 at 1:30 by itself is enough to convince me Tim could sing unamplified with a small choir and still be heard on the low stuff! I'd be interested to hear Tim sing unamplified in a smaller room...there was a big interview they did with Tim on Gold City's Facebook page in the past couple weeks, and they were in a much smaller room...sometimes Tim just speaking sounded like it vibrated the room, so I'd be interested to hear him sing in a room like that.

2:22 Eb1 there's some videos of him singing with gold city off-mic and he hits a B1 thats almost as loud as the tenor belting up in the 4th octave. his resonance and volume is astounding for someone who's so used to singing on-mic

@@heliotropeskies5918 Oh yeah, you're talking about this clip: kzbin.info/www/bejne/o3LPZIafetaUmZY That B1 at the end definitely has cut to it. The fact that they're outside also puts any bass at a disadvantage because the lower sound waves don't get carried by the surrounding acoustics, and he still manages to cut through clearly for most of that note. Volume-wise, a choral bass I'd put Tim around the level of is Aleksander Bondarenko...a clip of him singing with a camera like 2-3 feet away has about the same volume as Tim does here, though Aleksander's voice has more richness to it vs. Tim's having more cut. Since Aleksander can sing with a choir, I wouldn't put it past Tim to at least be able to hold his own down into the lower 2nd octave. He's kinda like the Glenn Miller of Southern Gospel...his voice just cuts through stuff. There's another clip here from like 11 years ago where he does some C2s unplugged with Gold City. Listen at 1:23. kzbin.info/www/bejne/gautZqyejcd6asU

The tips Tim gave are also tips to help people do death metal vocals like growling and shit. Keep the placement forward drop your jaw make sure the diaphragm is active. I've been doing metal vocals for some time and I didn't even know how much that can help me with bass singing.
