Tim Westwood opened up to VladTV about being criticized for promoting violence by playing street music in the U.K., adding that the Prime Minister even called him out in Parlament. When asked how he feels about these types of accusations, Tim said that he doesn't feel like listening to rap music will inspire you to be a gangster.
Adding to the conversation, Tim said rap gives artists like Giggs a way out of the streets, and you can hear the rest of his thoughts on the conversation up top.

No idea. Tony Blair complained about several different black rappers saying that their music was promoting violence; Maggie Thatcher complained about reggae artists being agitators, as did John Major.

Westwood is one of the only few white guys that gets it when it comes to so called violence in hip hop. What he's saying is right, many hip hop artists we all support came from disadvantage violent backgrounds with little to no chance of getting out of that. hip hop music is just a reflection of those hard upbringings.

Westwood finally talking some sense. what he should've said about Breezy and Wayne with their bandanas, is that in the US they're easily fooled and allow these fake bangers to influence them, whereas in the UK that fuckery don't happen. can you picture a British Slim Jesus getting any airplay in the UK. nah mate

Giggs is 1 person. Overall gangster rap does have a negative influence, Alonso said it himself, everybody turned into a gangster in L.A after N.W.A made it cool. I know they were just rapping about what was going down in their hood and their intention wasn't to promote gang culture, but it did promote gang culture.

Handguns aren’t actually illegal you can own one if you want but the barrel has to be a certain length and they add a counter weight rod so you can’t conceal it a lot harder to get permission for one of them unless you’ve held a license for a while though.

The only thing about Westwood is that his community is not effected by rap and gang violence. He stopped playing anything conscious after 98. Pure crappie he was playing that's what led to people in uk who where not in to hiphop all of a sudden becoming rappers. In UK most people where regga/ Drum and bass. When rap turned materialistic all the materialistic black on black shooters thought they where rappers.

Facts. People are so black and white with their thinking, e.g. "it's not hip-hop, it's lack of opportunities". Nah bro, it's both lol. Hip-hop can reflect real life while at the same time influencing it. In fact it works perfectly that way, it's partly how it has sustained itself for so long

A lot of rappers do promote bullshit, but where did they get it from? Sizzurp and gangs been goin on way before Lil' Wayne. Rappers just talk about what they see goin on in the streets. If the streets were peaceful, that's what the rappers would be rapping about.
@Rossboe1
@Rossboe1 7 жыл бұрын
Ive been listening to hip hop for close to 30 years, and I love the music. But there is no doubt that gangster rap does have a negative influence on the youth. I live in Australia and there are parts in my city where you can tell the kids listen to too much hip hop and they think there gangsters, and it produces violence. Kids are all ways trying to be cooler than the next kid, and some think listen to the hardest gangster shit makes them cooler, and acting like those rappers makes them cooler, mainly to get pussy. There are always going to be violence in poorer neighbourhoods, but this promotes it for sure.

Hip-Hop is definitely a musical genre of 2 different faces. Unfortunately the BBC hired a man to stealth manipulate Hip-Hop into just 1 side of that face = the gangster side. Once you have a Hip-Hop community that cares more about money, gold-chains, expensive cars, and pimping hoes, then you have a social community that is much more aligned with capitalisms requirements = that you should care more about ego, than spirituality. That you should crave material items over social respect. That you should become a grunt for a gang, instead of being a strong, free thinking, individual. The whole point of Tim Westwoods rap show was to format Hip-Hop into what the establishment wanted it to be. Bland, Blingy, Cloned. Thankfully the real Hip-Hop community wasn't so easily fooled...... You'll notice Tim Westwood almost having a meltdown when Vlad asks him about the KRS 1 interview in another section of this interview.

"...hip hop is reflecting that not promoting that..." utter bullshit. The time has long passed where it was merely reflective. Promoting a certain lifestyle is heavy in the culture. Keep rolling out the same old "X rapper isn't going to make me get a strap,chop up a brick blah", conveniently swerving the point that the music IS promoting and goes hand in hand with that shit, regardless whether it sets someone on the path or not. Fact not opinion. Take out the relatively few acts elevating the discourse and be in denial about what remains if you're really that deluded. I'm a fan of long standing but rap is virtually incapable of self critique. To an extent first outings can be understood in the context of "reflection"/lack of options, but you're older,richer and STILL talking about "I had to do this I had to that"? Really? A lot of liars that didn't have to do shit other than not be a follow fashion and a beg incriminating themselves on social media. Still in it for the sheer talent , production, and cadences but the themes are dead and the influence is real cos' I see that shit almost every day.
