There sure is something special about that old K. The Funch makes the perfect companion to it. Not twins, but sisters.

I feel like you were instrumental to saving a sound and a cymbal making technique from the passing of time. Now someone knows how to clone it, and it's on the internet. Now we'll have 50 K's forever!!! Literally something to get emotional over.

I think the Funch takes it. The stick sound and its separation from the metal sound is just about perfect. I also think the old K has probably settled down so much that the rivets are choking it, and it would benefit from having at least half of them removed.

Again.. bravo for having done this interview video. Lasse definitely has a gift, the talent and a hell of an ear to pick up every little subtilities of a cymbal. There is just this little more "butter" on the Funch that gives it somewhat more life. Definitely two great cymbals and I will be curious to hear how Lasse's will age.

I'm having a bit of a shell shock today because I've played jazz drums for 13 years, and it goes without saying how much I love great cymbals. Until today, when discovered funch cymabls, I did not know it was even possible to make something better than a vintage K. yet somehow he has done the impossible. I am speechless!

The Funch is significantly better and sounds a lot like the best old K's I've encountered: it has no conflicting tones within it (no "warble") and the separation between the stick click and the underlying wash is just amazing. Thank God there's a source now for what we all thought to be a lost sound!

Great and very informative video. It’s fantastic to hear from talented craftsmen who know so much about cymbal making. I always found it interesting that drummers are kind of obsessed with those early Ks in an effort to achieve the sound of the Jazz greats, but using cymbals that have now aged 60 to 70 years since that era. With today’s knowledge (and also exchange of knowledge), techniques and some guys’ craftsmanship, I have the impression there is hardly anything that can’t be achieved in modern cymbals.

But more than that, I special ordered a k dark complex clone from Paul Francis and he hit it out of the park, even though that like your Funch and K, the pitches are different the CHARACTER and ESSENCE of the original is in spades in the clone. I was introduced to the cymbal Masterpieces of Roberto by a Good Friend now departed; he had a collection of some 35 cymbals by the time he passed. I too made a number of Pilgrimages to Lee's house myself and although I HAVE Thinned the Herd, I still have several and this Artist is without a doubt destinated to be on the same level, Congrats to you AND him!! I do feel there's more spread to the Funch instrument and it has a clearly a lower Fundamental pitch as well. How the cymbal feels under the stick is important too but that seems to be on par with the other attributes as you demonstrated it in this video!!

Now, I presumably did carry over your bias into my listening but what jumps out at me immediately is how much more "alive" the Funch sounds. I like the sound of the Funch better … it seems extremely musical without the weird overtones of that old k … but it’s funny we keep trying to recreate these mysterious cymbals of old! Stick sound on a good old k is always a few decibels louder or something and markedly tighter than anything modern, for better or worse. This seems to be reflected here. Modern cymbals almost always have a softer feel and vibe. Hard to Use words
