Thanks, another great informative trip. About windage...sounds like flying a small plane ... With strong crosswind from starboard, as you slow down you are kicking more and more left rudder to keep the plane from rounding up into the wind. When you run out of rudder, you use brakes...and when you run out of brakes you hope you are pointed between the runway lights. Same deal..stern windage. Did a little off-roading with a Cessna 172 in Lubbock Texas one afternoon...thanks again for the ride.

It's nice that you still say where you are at and passing as not all of us have come at the start or earlier in the piece or like me... joining from Melbourne Australia and have no idea where you are or going to.. It is definitely a larger port than here in Melb.. I love seeing all the different ships, tugs, barges and maritime vessels over there. Great stuff. Here is a funny for you, when you were talking about "The Kills" I googled it and it comes up as a band name, so I had to change it to maritime meaning and then I got the correct meaning.

Team work! 👍 Sine note: I'm a long time drag racing fan and there is a guy from the north east named Bill Dee, who has owned many nitro funny cars over the last 4 or 5 decades. The name he uses on his cars is "Nor' Easter". If you google "Nor' Easter funny car" and click on images you'll see what I'm talking about. It's funny how the time lapse makes the smoke/steam look like a fireboat playing around with her water cannons. (top left of video at 5:05 to 5:20). .... Also, you can really see the effect of all that mass in how long it takes your course and heading to line back up whenever you make a turn, especially when you're steering for the bridge at 7:00. That could just be an optical illusion from the waves coming across at an angle, though (not sure if those are the right terms, I mean where you're pointed vs. direction of your movement).

Wiz Juice is right. A few years ago an animal rights group attempted to force Fishkill, NY to change it's name, not knowing that "kill" was Dutch for stream or body of water. Hey Tim, one of my favorite narrowboat YT channels in the UK releases two videos of their journey sometimes. The normal sped-up vlog with commentary, and then a "slow TV" version that's in real time and may be hours and hours. I'm sure people will still complain either way, but might be worth a shot.
@TimBatSea3 жыл бұрын
Thank you for watching. I should welcome you to the channel, thinking that you must be relatively new to it. I made two or three "two version" videos. One was a flat video for those that preferred flat, and the other was a 360 video in realtime. I stopped doing it because the incredible amount of extra work and data time didn't justify the small viewing public that watched the 360 versions. CUOTO

The big drum set in the sky. I like sailing up the Thames from the estuary up past the new container ports, the old docks are now housing, light industry and retail parks. City airport and the high rise office blocks of Canary Wharf, all connected by the Docklands Light Railway that's built on old track and new viaduct sections. Mostly It is for testing and hoining my skills. Since my boat is on the hard, now. We're looking at the snows, this coming week, and I suspect, that's not fun either. Adding some mass to the barges.

What is that old grey ship on the other side of the pier you are using? Looks military. I also like the description of the shoreline. We lived on Staten Island for a while and too, the Ferry every day. Sometimes on weekends to look at the harbor.

Thank you for watching Greg. I don't believe or know that it had a military history. It is now just used to store powdered cement. CUOTO

I’m a recreational boater out of Norwalk / Darien Ct area, hope to see you out there, Just found your videos and channel after putting some time into researching a trip from Ct to The Battery via Hell Gate and East River

Thank you for watching and welcome to the channel! Please consider subscribing. On Nov 4th (weather permitting) I plan to run my Sailboat down the sound to the Gate and then off to Florida and the Bahamas. You can follow along on my other channel, SV Paquita, or AIS. Or get you boat ready and come on along with us. 😂 CUOTO

@@TimBatSea One question actually: Heading into NYC to do a tour w fam. Pretty new 28’ center console, and I have a lot of experience etc. (~2000 hours), but have never boated through hell gate. If I am not timing current through hell gate for slack, I should be fine right? Haven’t boated through there but also know enough to fear ‘weird water’ (I think of places like muskeget channnel off of MV, confluence of ACK and MV Sounds + Atlantic ripping into one spot over shallow waters and making straight up rapids etc….). Anyway, LMK thoughts or advice - thank you!!!
@TimBatSea2 жыл бұрын
@@sarneill1 if you have a 28 foot Center Console, I'm sure you have a bunch of power pushing it. You will be able to go through the gate anytime. Just sometimes will be more relaxing than others. The tide can run 5 to 6 kts at times.

Nice video! Not related, but I recently found that there is a lonely single ITB still running on the Great Lakes. Hre name is the Presque Isle. We saw her years ago passing Clayton, NY on the St. Lawrence. CUOTO
@TimBatSea4 жыл бұрын
Wow. Are you sure? The reason why I asked, is that they have to be manned like a ship making them way to expensive to operate. Are you sure it wasn't an ATB? Thank you for watching. CUOTO

@@TimBatSea Well, I looked it up in a book they put out each year for Great Lakes shipping: "Know Your Ships". Also freighterfreak.wordpress.com/presque-isle/ Has a couple photos near the bottom of the separated tug. Weird!

Growing up next to Lake Michigan we learned about Nor'Easters as they were the scourge of shipping back to the days of schooners. Hundreds of shipwrecks litter the bottoms of the Great Lakes. A relatively few make for great scuba diving. You definitely DONOT want to be out on the lake in a recreational boat if a Nor'Easter kicks up.
