Jeff, great practical video followup to the previous theoretical video. It really shows the amount of materials and effort to create just one set. We always marvel at the amount of work it took to build the old mines, especially those with a lot of square sets, hoist rooms, and shafts. The Delamar gold mine is one of the best examples. www.mine-explorer.com/Delamar/delamar1.htm

Stuart Chignell . Depending on the location of the mine and drainage. Pine timbers last quite a while. One of my hard rock mines in Idaho Springs Colorado was dug in 1905, I have some beautiful timbers running almost 1300 ' back.
@StuartChignell6 жыл бұрын
Hmmm. Interesting. Makes sense though. Dry mine and it doesn't rot. Do you try and leave air gaps so if it does get wet it can dry? Pack large rocks behind the lagging?
@ericmattinen47286 жыл бұрын
If you are in a wet environment, you could use pressure treated lumber. Collars and shaft timbering is usually Douglas Fir, which is very resistant to rot and insect damage.
@stingray427man6 жыл бұрын
Thats Douglas Fir, not pine. I asked Jeff about this in the previous video. Fir is also a softwood but its much less prone to warping and twisting, its also much stronger than pine.
