Kris - I absolutely enjoy your videos and have watched all your content for many years. I'm always impressed how much you can accomplish. I suspect my next comments will be ignored, but maybe they will resonate this time after the hydraulic hose failure....... You have accepted the potential loss of hearing valuable enough to wear ear muffs. Fantastic! Please, please reconsider your lack of respect for your eyes. You will miss being able to see so much more than you will miss your ability to hear. Wearing eye protection works. I say this out of respect and love for your dedication to being independent.

We're really happy that you let us be a small part of your life. Thank you so much! We continue to donate a tiny bit every month, all we ca afford. You and Dot's kind and loving personalities really shine through, reminding us that there are still people out there with good mental health. A small observation, if you don't mind: you might take time to reconsider your body mechanics, as you are easily spending twice as much energy as needed. You do a lot of almost overhanded work, for instane lifting pearlings up, an reaching up to bang them into place. If you were standing about 2 feet higher (on a ladder, perhaps), you would use much less energy. Your work should be approximately at waist height. Also too much hand sawing and chisling - set up a jig on your table saw to do most of the work on cut-outs and grooves. But we love you two over here in Colorado, USA!

This is one of my favorite videos that you've done. Moving off grid and being a small holder isn't all rainbows and unicorns, there is a tremendous amount of hard work, sacrifice, and pain involved. Plenty if times it will be sheer grit and determination that keeps you going when conditions are awful, nothing works right, and work is painful. Important to see this side of the equation too. Hat's off to you sir, well done.

it's always the way when you've been away from the job for a while. your going to have to get back in to the swing of thing's nice a steady dos it no real reason to rush when wet. i had a think on your problem with the gap to span Often you know people think that the Truss is only used to support a roof But you can use the truss to support a beam spanning a gap such as you have their. you have ti build it in such a way that it is wedged in position & that it is prevented from spreading the joints, The king post for example its Tennon must pass though it's mortise with it's ciphered in a peace of hard wood that is prepped to tack wages in to the mottos so the pull the beam one whant to support in to the under beam in to the mortice agents the truss counter brace acting to prevent sagging is restrained place with wages After pining , Don't for get the braces neither in the truss. you could ues the tip of splice you used in your work shop & then the truss & through King post To brace it from the top . to strengthen, & brace it , sore that once in a barn on the earl of Bradford estate we demolished l it had stood up for over 300 year's covering tow wagon Bay's.

Kris, the hydraulic blowout reminds me of an incident when I was doing a self build with a neighbour, he was digging out a footing with a JCB. In a millisecond there was a loud bang, in the same moment the guy was injected in his arm with boiling hydraulic oil. Within seconds once we knew what had happened, his arm below his bicep was full of oil, sagging like a carrier bag full of fluid. Crikey it was scary, he spent several weeks in hospital, thankfully he recovered. As you will know, never underestimate the power of hydraulic oil under pressure. As always great content. Thank you.
