That's absolutely amazing , I'm looking to achieve just this on my land. combined hydro and solar.

To make an induction motor generate it needs to be excited by the mains . With no water on the turbine the motor will rotate and absorb power from the mains. If the water tries to turn the motor faster than about 3% above synchronous speed then it will generate. I guess that If the mains fails the system just stops generating .

Incredible as always. Loving the generosity as well. Amazing.

Hi, just found your channel, fantastic series on the waterwheel. Are there any pictures of the original wheel and was it overshot or undershot. My late father used to generate DC from the undershot wheel on the old mill on the farm before connection to the grid in 1955.

Great job! How about introducing a voltage regulator as the water speed is not linear???

Now that you have a lot more experience, what do you think about using a chainsaw for timber frame mortises? If a chain mortiser wasn't in the budget, would you consider a chainsaw a worthwhile labor-saving tool? Or would you just make do without any kind of chained power tool?

Do you think it would work more efficiently using smooth bore pipe rather than that ribbed drainage type?

Hi Kris. I'm 56 and from Plymouth, but I have lived in the rural Philippines for the past 9 years. I had one of your videos pop up on my news feed a few weeks ago and have been binge watching ever since. This is the latest video I've watched. I am hooked on your channel, and Im looking forward to seeing what you have done in the past 4 years. I just wanted to say that you are truly an inspirational and motivation to many people. You have a kind heart and care passionately for nature and the wildlife. Your family must be so proud of what you have done, largly with your bare hands and determination. One day, I am sure you are going to be an amazing role model to your children if that's your plan. God bless Kris. Take care always. 👏👏👏👏🙏❤️

First thing you did wrong was go to aliexpress unfortunately……they sell cheap for a reason……maybe you spend abit more but get it locally or from here in the US…(which hopefully isn’t made in china….but if it is they have to produce the output they state if a company here is selling the product)….nice wheel and setup either way…hope you got that wattage figured out.

Glad to see Bert sparing you and Dot, I hope the rest of this bad weather is equal;y easy on you! By the way, I remember you hinting that you might want to take up beekeeping at some point. I just started a course recently, and it's extremely fascinating. I would love to see how you would tackle the challenges. It would also be great to see you setting up a fully DIY/home-made apiary. Using the woodworking shop to make the hives, frames, tools, etc, that would be incredibly interesting to see. My biggest problem with other channels dealing with beekeeping is that they all use store-bought stuff, and it's a bit wasteful.

Nice work and this probably give you an idea, by adding 2 rollers at each side of the wheel this will help with the weight and take some load from the shaft ( the rollers will be under and rolling on the place that you bolted the shaft caps basically under the pipe ) tanks for the videos and wishing you the best
Hey Kris, no idea if you'll ever see this, but I am a 43 year old 'rat race' person with ADHD with 4 kids and waiting until they are moved out so the wife and I can seriously consider doing what you are doing. Circumstances mean we can't do it until they are older, but I watch your vids from start to finish, which for someone with ADHD, is I hope, a huge compliment. You are just so chill and easy going, no fluff in your videos and a genuinely lovely chap to listen to. I wish I had your foresight to do this when I was younger like you did, but hey, that didn't happen. Keep up the great work. Love listening and watching to you explain how all your stuff works and all your experimenting etc. That is what life is about. Trial and error, until we pass away. Take care, merry Christmas. EDIT: the barn is looking incredible and what a huge sense of achievement you'll have when you complete it, although I'm sure you'll have lots of tweaks to it over the years :)

I think the shaft was already compromised when the first cracks appeared around the hub. Welding it just delayed the total failure. This has been a great series that you have produced and also, a beautiful wheel and system to support it. Keep up the good work. I have an 1840 watt solar generator that I designed and built. Totally for Off-Grid. Just like you. Unforeseen barriers, problems, and of course, the angle of the sun in Northern Oregon, USA is just less than 21 degrees... Great work on the job and in your video presentation. @5acre-nw-wood

Watching you shear makes my back hurt. We have BFL's. They are so calm that we just put a halter on them and tie them to the gate. Shearing goes so much better with a calm sheep. No wool on the belly, face, or legs.
