Using Mafell mortiser and rounding over with a 1” round bit on the tennon for a perfect fit. Eliminates the need to hand chisel the mortise for a square fit on the bottom. Let’s call it “the money shot”!!

I just bore the mortice a bit deeper, I don't chisel the bottom of the mortice, in fact after the morticer I don't touch the mortice, its done. I use a go not go gauge made up of two cut down framing squares to test the tenon. After 20 years of hand cranking mortices the Mafel is a blessing.

When rounding the first side, are you adjusting the depth to leave uncut material for the bearing to ride on when routing the opposing side?

Hi Paul When setting up the router, I set bit depth at the full length of the radius curve and not further. This makes the first cut and allows the bearing to ride on the apex of the rounded surface on the second cut. Hope this helps
