I used to build houses in Switzerland where all studs were tenend into the bottom plate. The chain ran on 90 degrees to the plate and the Morticer had a stop which always placed on outside of plate, no clamps needed and a mortise was achieved in seconds by moving along to required widths……

Hello there, I think your comparison is great and I have to agree with you in all cases. The Mafell simply works cleaner. Can you tell me which sword and chain you use to get a 5cm chain width?

Mafel is pricey for sure. If you are cutting timber frames it’ll pay for itself with 2 or 3 frames. I should have bought it years ago!
