Forestry consultant Rob Haubry walks you through an example of a good timber investment property. Buying property, big or small, can be a great investment - especially when you can generate income from that property. It is very important to know and understand the species mix and size distribution of the trees on your property, or a potential investment property.

What is a good location to invest to buy land to grow timber or pine tree? And how much land should someone have?

There are many factors that would need to be discusses to answer either of those questions. We would start by contacting one of our land specialist in the area you are thinking about buying.

Great illustration with Sandra Jonas you will be shown why it’s better to hit singles and doubles than to try to hit home runs.

Life without SANDRA JONAS would be meaningless as I would have been sent packing with my kids if not for their instant response.

Just for sake of wanting to buy my own property. I am looking into undeloped areas to eventually make my own off grid hunting camp. If I needed to cut 1/4 mile back through timber to put the driveway in, can I sell the timber from that selected path? And how would somebody go about doing something like that, would it be wiser to cut and stack myself and bring a buyer in, or sell them standing and let them cut what they what from pre determined strip and take care of the rest myself for fire logs.

We would suggest contacting a consulting forester in your state. There would be too many variables to say one way or the other what you should do. A forester will certainly be able to help get you started and give you an idea of the value of the timber, and if there is enough value to bring in a logging crew to harvest it. Hope this helps!

I have a very good timbered 5 acres. East Central Oklahoma. 40+ft tall before any limbs. Mostly Oak and hardwoods. How do I find someone that might be interested in clearing most of it? I really wanna not just cut and burn. Would rather it be used somehow. TIA

Yes we agree on not just cutting and burning good hardwood trees. We would suggest getting in contact with a consulting forester in your area.
