I'd like to hear the test without the compressor to hear the more natural sound since a of of us won't be using that much compression. To me the compressor sound like it has a very fast attack time and is smashing your transient which is where you will hear the differences more. I do think the differences could more audible without it.

Clearly a difference between each type, IMHO. I like the sound of the shell picks. Got one today, so I was wondering, how they sound compared to the stone picks. Thank you for the comparison! By the way: I think it was a nice setting on the compressor and/or an even playing. I was very sceptic at first, but: Well done! \m/ ~ Michael

Just a quick note of interest. I play a lot of real stone picks and at least 3 of the 4 and maybe the 4th as well are reconstituted stone NOT real stone. They are lighter than real stone and they feel much different than real stone. Whatever binding material they use comprises much of the pick and definitely changes they way they feel and sound. I had all three of those on the left and returned them. They feel like plastic. I think that 4th one could be the same material as well, especially if it's from the same company. Furthermore, when I started playing stone picks I was surprised at how good they feel and sound when made right. Not all sellers are making them right. For electric guitar, stone picks are excellent but not for acoustic. On acoustic they have a harsh grating sound to me. The key is getting picks that are shaped right. They can be as thick as 3. mm or more but are playable if they are tapered to 1.mm at the point. They produce a better tone than you'd think and provide great dynamic and tone control. You can produce soft mellow tone or strong brighter tone depending on the angle of your pick attack on the strings. Beware that some sellers have picks that are NOT playable due to shape or finish. I have also tried graphite picks, including Adamas and Telefunken. Even though I like those the stones just feel and play better and seem to hold up better. Overall, I am sold on playing stone picks on my electrics. The feel does seem to make you play better. IMHO

Don't hear that much of a difference to be honest! There seems to be a hype going on at the moment that picks make that big of an impact on your sound but I'm not convinced !

They really do make an impact... wether they have to be natural materials or not is besides the point, but the Shell Tones clearly give you more high end... you definitely notice it when you are playing...

They do make difference. It helps to listen to this video with high quality monitors or headphones.

***** Focal Solo 6 monitors in a acoustically treated room good enough? Or some Sennheiser HD-25's? I'm not saying there is NO difference, just that in a band situation or in a mix on an album, the difference is negligible.

As an acoustic player, the difference a pick makes to the tone is substantial. I believe the same to be true for electric, though perhaps to a somewhat lesser extent.

I can attest wood picks are grossly superior to nylon or anything else. I’ve been using them since the 90s. I can assure you that this brand is VERY CREATIVE with the way they name their woods. China Made, enough said.stay away or be disappointed. After trying every brand of wood picks on this planet, I only recommend Forever Pick. Handmade in USA, half the price of foreign made. They never crack or break. I get them on reverb. The guy who owns this company made a lot of very famous guitars we all know. He is gonna shut down Dunlop in 2018.

Yes, I hear a slight difference between the picks, but what I can clearly hear, is that you are not nice to the woman who puts you on KZbin! Try to be nice to her for the coming ages, will you?
