How to Carve an Eye - Day 15

At last we're half way through the board and hopefully the projects shown so far have helped some beginners to relief carving. Carving an eye from wood can be quite difficult, there's lots of different parts to think about but hopefully this tutorial will help you figure out how to do it, or at least give you some confidence to try it yourself.

What is a Bendy boy chisel? I like seeing you use it and it seems a bit easier than a parting tool which is a pain to sharpen!! I've never heard of the 'bendy boy ustil I watched your video

It's just a silly name I made up for the chisel because I have no idea what it's actually called. It's a bent chisel with a flat end but...I don't know what it'd be called unfortunately

@@ClintRoseCarving Thanks for the answer, I'm guessing it's a long bent #2 but no expert. Also will try using a bench chisel like you did for shaping, really makes sense since; like you said; they're much easier to sharpen. Keep making sawdust and chips -- John

I had considered a nose but we'll be doing a wood spirit so I'll count that as the nose. A mouse is a good idea! I'll look into that, thank you

I believe that, normally, the upper eyelid of the eye is curved, but the lower one is rather linear...
